Masseria Don Luigi was built in the 1800s in the countryside of Savelletri di Fasano, in Puglia, and now runs as a small relais with 14 rooms. Its wedding grounds are the reason to look at it: a grove the masseria counts among the largest of old olive trees in the area, a separate garden of orange and lemon trees, courtyards under stone archways and a large pool. Hiring the estate for the wedding day gives a couple all of it, and two wedding films were made here.

A farmhouse from the 1800s

The masseria has kept the squared lines and white lime walls typical of Puglian farmhouses. Inside, the rooms have vaulted ceilings and stone floors that stay cool in the height of summer, and the furniture is minimal, with some of it made by local artisans. The rooms were restored to preserve the soul of the masseria, and modern amenities sit alongside the farmhouse character.

The address is Contrada Coccaro, close to Fasano train station and in the middle of the Valle d’Itria, a valley of small towns. The pool faces the olive grove, and the orange and lemon trees of the Agrumeto grow in a garden of their own.

Olive grove, courtyards and Agrumeto

Ceremonies are held in the courtyard under stone archways or beneath the olive trees, and they can also take place on the terraces. The lemon garden is used for welcome parties, and the lawn and the small courtyards sit between the ceremony spaces and the places for cocktails and dinner. An outdoor banquet can be laid in the gardens or in a courtyard, with room for long tables, dancing and live music.

For an indoor reception there is a large glass gazebo in the olive grove, which also serves smaller gatherings. After dark the grounds are lit with candles and soft lighting, and fairy lights are strung in the gardens.

The pool and the weekend

The pool is large, with a shallow end for children, and the estate is spacious and family friendly. It is set up for aperitivi before a wedding and for brunch the morning after. A celebration of several days can open with welcome cocktails by the pool and close with a relaxed farewell brunch, and friends and family who stay on site have the feel of a house party.

Hiring the estate covers the pool, the gardens, the courtyards and every room, so the wedding party has the place to itself. Within that, the team works with each couple on the setting and plans the details, from decor to entertainment. Entertainment can be live music, DJ sets or other performances.

Two weddings on film

Two wedding films were made at the masseria by different studios. Natalie and Laurent’s, above, is by B-roll Studio. Dieter and Siska’s wedding in Puglia, below, was filmed by Saturn Films, and the film’s own credits name Sergio Eblo and Modestino Iavarone as videographers, Matteo Lomonte as photographer and Sublimae Weddings as planner.

Tables among the olive trees

Catering is in house only, so couples do not bring their own caterer. The kitchen cooks seasonal dishes from locally sourced ingredients, rooted in Apulian tradition and open to contemporary requests. A wedding lunch is possible as well as a dinner, and either can be laid among the olive trees.

A poolside aperitivo can mean chilled spritzes, local wines and antipasti of burrata, focaccia and just picked vegetables. Banquets are laid with linen, candles and fresh herbs, and the dishes mentioned for them include handmade orecchiette, seafood from the Adriatic and seasonal contorni. Welcome dinners can be built around wood fired pizza, and there are tasting menus with wine pairings and dessert tables of pasticciotti and gelato.

Where guests sleep

There are four room categories, and the rooms sleep up to 34 guests in all. Each category has an ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, a television and a safe, and the rooms come with breakfast, wifi, a minibar, bicycles and parking. There is an electric car charging point, and guests can use the pool with towels and sunbeds provided.

The Standard room is a double with a queen size bed and a shower room, opening onto its own patio with a table and chairs. The Standard Attic Room is reached by an old stone staircase and also has a queen size bed and a shower room; the masseria describes it as in high demand. The Superior Attic Double Room measures 26 square metres, with a star shaped vault overhead and a private balcony. The Superior room can take a cot or a third bed, and its patio is a few steps from the pool. 5 Star Weddings also records a Bridal Suite with soft natural light and a terrace for morning preparations, which is not among the four categories on the masseria’s own pages.

A season from April to October

The estate opens its gates from April through late October, with spring running from April to May, summer from June to September and autumn in October. Preferred dates should be secured well ahead, especially for weekends in the peak months.

Staying on after the wedding

Guests who stay beyond the wedding day can take part in classes in Puglian cooking and in cheese making, where they learn to make cheese and mozzarella, join yoga lessons in the open air or book a massage among the olive trees. Bicycles are available to guests.

Fasano train station is close by, and the masseria sits in the middle of the Valle d’Itria, which makes it a base for day trips to the valley’s small towns. The area is covered on the page for weddings in Fasano, in the Puglia Wedding Atlas and on the wider page for weddings in Puglia.

Numbers, costs and practicalities

Guest capacities and prices are not stated on the masseria’s own pages. The figures here come from 5 Star Weddings, which records a ceremony capacity of up to 300 guests outdoors and 250 indoors. It records hire of the estate for the wedding day from €8,500 in mid season to €12,000 in high season, for the day only, and menus from €170 per guest, separate from the hire.

Brindisi and Bari are the airports serving the area, about 52 and 61 kilometres away in a straight line, and parking on site is available for guests and suppliers. Music and dancing can go on late, with sound restrictions after midnight. Couples who want a legally recognised ceremony should ask the masseria how it is arranged, and where a ceremony moves if the weather turns. The wedding it suits, and what to settle first

Masseria Don Luigi suits couples who want to marry outdoors in the Puglian countryside and to have the whole estate for the day, with a house party for their closest family and friends.

Four things are worth settling before a date is held. With the rooms sleeping 34 against a ceremony capacity of 300, decide which guests stay on site and arrange accommodation for the others. The season closes in late October. Sound restrictions apply after midnight. And catering cannot be brought in. If those fit, the next step is to ask how the ceremony is arranged legally.
