Oheka Castle was raised between 1914 and 1917 for the financier and arts patron Otto Hermann Kahn, who took his own initials for its name. Delano & Aldrich designed the French-style château on the highest point of Long Island, and the Olmsted Brothers laid out the formal gardens with their reflecting pools. At 109,000 square feet it ranks as the second-largest private residence ever built in America. Today it is a member of Historic Hotels of America, standing on the Gold Coast that inspired The Great Gatsby.
Only one wedding is held here each day, so the castle, terraces and gardens belong to a single celebration. Ceremonies take place outdoors in the reflecting-pool gardens and move indoors if the weather turns. Dinner is seated in the Terrace Room for up to 350 guests, with a floor for dancing, and larger gatherings of up to 1,000 can spread across the terraces and grounds. The castle's own kitchen provides the menus, and 34 guestrooms and suites, including a bridal suite, keep the wedding party on the estate. Huntington is about 40 minutes from JFK and LaGuardia and roughly an hour from Manhattan.
