The French sculptor and architect Jacques Couëlle designed the hotel in 1963 for the Aga Khan's development of Sardinia's north coast. Its rounded arches, terracotta and rough plaster were meant to look as if they grew out of the rock.

Couples marry on the tiered sea-facing terraces, beside the private dock or on the beach, with the bay behind them. A civil ceremony licence is held on site, and religious blessings and symbolic ceremonies can be arranged.

Il Pescatore serves Mediterranean and Sardinian cooking on a terrace that opens to the water. Wedding dinners are held here and on the resort's other terraces.

A spa, a bay-facing pool and a private beach club sit alongside 121 rooms and suites. The whole resort can be reserved for exclusive use.
