A former post station in the Gavi hills
Locanda La Raia was once a post station for travellers and is now a relais of twelve rooms, each different from the next, with a restaurant and a spa. It stands among the vineyards, pastures and woods of La Raia, a biodynamic estate. The interiors mix seventeenth-century Piedmontese furniture with contemporary design and family paintings, and the garden of aromatic herbs in front of the house leads into a larger garden made with the French team Coloco, collaborators of the landscape architect Gilles Clément.
Borgo Merlassino for celebrations
Weddings are held at Borgo Merlassino, an old farmstay on the northern edge of the estate. The farmhouse, the barn, the patio and La Villa stand around a large circular courtyard among Cortese vineyards, above an unspoiled valley with a small lake. A wedding can move from a promise by the lake to an aperitif in the patio, dinner in the ancient barn and dancing in the courtyard, with themed brunches at the Locanda.
The restaurant
The restaurant received the MICHELIN Green Star 2025. Chef Tommaso Arrigoni cooks seasonal food that blends Ligurian and Piedmontese influences, using produce from the estate and from small local suppliers, with a la carte and two tasting menus paired with Gavi La Raia and with Nebbiolo and Barolo from Tenuta Cucco.

An entire floor of the Locanda is given to wellness, with temperature-controlled indoor and outdoor pools overlooking the vineyards, a relaxation area with a Himalayan salt wall, a gym, a treatment cabin, a Turkish bath and a sauna. A tennis court stands among the vineyards.
