Ancestral seat of the Atholl family with a Victorian Ballroom · Blair Atholl, Highland Perthshire
Blair Castle in Highland Perthshire pairs a Victorian Ballroom and Georgian state rooms with a ruined Celtic kirk, and plans every wedding individually.
Blair Castle stands on Atholl Estates in the heart of Highland Perthshire, among gardens, lochs, rivers and glens. The Victorian Ballroom was designed by the Scottish architect David Bryce for the 7th Duke of Atholl's private army, the Atholl Highlanders, and is still used today for their annual ball. Georgian state rooms and a historic library sit alongside it, and the wedding options are grouped as Castle Weddings, Lodge Weddings and Wild Weddings. Every wedding on Atholl Estates is individually planned, and each couple is encouraged to bring their own personal touch. Couples can choose the grandeur of the castle, a rustic outdoor wedding or an intimate lodge wedding.
For a Ballroom wedding, guests proceed up a red carpet and through a baronial entrance hall before heading down a long corridor into the room. The castle gardens and grounds are used for wedding photography. After a ceremony elsewhere in the grounds, Diana's Grove, a secluded woodland in the castle gardens, is the setting for photographs. The Beauty Room on the estate offers beauty treatments, make-up and other finishing touches for bridal parties, and a list of trusted local suppliers covers kilt hire, wedding cars, coaches, florists, entertainment and a piper to welcome guests to the castle.

Ceremonies can be civil or religious. Indoors, the choice is the Victorian Ballroom, the State Dining Room, with its delicate Georgian plasterwork and ceiling roundels, or the historic Library, which is not open to visitors to the castle. Outdoors, St Bride's Kirk is a ruin dating back to Celtic times, used for weddings and for renewing vows, and Hercules Garden is a walled garden restored to its original Georgian design. The private West Lawn is exclusively accessible to couples and their guests. Outdoor ceremonies at the West Lawn, St Bride's Kirk and Hercules Garden can move indoors to the Ballroom, Banvie Hall, State Dining Room or Library.

The Victorian Ballroom is designed for parties, with excellent acoustics, a large stage, two open fires, a fine dance floor and a state-of-the-art lighting system. Blair Castle seats up to 220 guests for dinner. Banvie Hall lies beyond the Ballroom behind a secret door. It is a contemporary room with a glass wall frontage looking onto the grounds and the surrounding hills, and it often serves as an extension to the Ballroom for a welcome reception, a bar or cutting the cake. The Library holds a drinks and canapé reception, and the West Lawn is an ideal place for drinks outdoors.

Couples and guests can stay in nearby lodges and at Blair Castle Caravan Park, which sits within the castle grounds. The Highland Lodges are self-catering, ranging from historic Old Blair to the grand Tulliemet House. Glen Glack Cabins near Dunkeld sit on the edge of Cally Loch, and two Shepherd Huts in the Tulliemet valley lie beneath ancient oaks, with long views across Strathtay.

Weddings at Blair Castle are catered by a panel of caterers compiled by the castle team. Ballintaggart holds that good food shared generously belongs at the heart of any celebration, and is recognised by The Michelin Guide, The Good Food Guide and The Observer Food Monthly Awards. Wilde Thyme is a Scottish catering and event design company with an experienced team. Saltire Hospitality is a family-owned Scottish caterer built on personal touches.
