About Elmhay Park

A walled garden, Italian veranda and Victorian style orangery behind the woods of the Orchardleigh Estate near Frome, with churches and stays on the estate.

Elmhay Park near Frome

Elmhay Park is a wedding venue set within its own private grounds, behind the woods of the Orchardleigh Estate near Frome in Somerset. Its heart is a garden made up of an Italian Veranda, a Walled Garden and an air conditioned Victorian style Orangery. The surroundings are Somerset countryside, in the quiet setting of the Lullington and Orchardleigh Parish. Weddings can be held on an exclusive-use basis, taking the whole venue, and there is the Bumbelina package and the three-day Eldon package. Castle and cottage accommodation is clustered around the venue, and the estate's churches are close by.

Elmhay Park is operated by Orchardleigh Ltd as part of the wider Orchardleigh Estate, and the estate's own facilities are close at hand. There is a lake for fishing, a golf course with a covered driving range, and clay pigeon shooting, all of which can be arranged around the wedding day. Fireworks and confetti are welcomed, and the venue stands in a private estate with no neighbours. Exclusive use covers the whole venue and is for a minimum of 60 guests, and the packages run all year. Dry hire is available for couples who want a blank canvas and their own choice of suppliers.

Ceremonies

Ceremonies in the gardens and the estate churches

The four ceremony areas are the Italian Garden, the Fountain, the Bandstand and the Walled Garden. The Italian Garden ceremony is held on the veranda at the bottom of the garden, with atmospheric lighting and real olive trees. The Fountain and the Bandstand are set in the Walled Garden, and the Walled Garden aisle runs between its walls towards the Orangery and the Fountain. The ceremony location can usually be changed a couple of hours beforehand if the weather turns. For a church wedding, St Mary's stands on its own island on the estate, with no electricity, so services are candlelit and the organ is pumped by hand. All Saints Lullington has fine Norman stonemasonry, and St John's in Frome is a Grade I listed church.

Receptions

The Orangery for the wedding breakfast and the party

The air conditioned Victorian style Orangery is used for the wedding breakfast, for dining and for breakfast the next day. It has built-in surround sound, and there are facilities for a DJ or a live band, so the same room serves for the speeches and for dancing. The standing reception capacity is up to 500 guests. The packages include a personal wedding coordinator and master of ceremonies. On dry hire there is no corkage, and chairs, round tables, Chiavari chairs, cutlery, crockery and wine glasses are included.

The stay

Village, castle and lodge stays

Elmhay Village is a courtyard of self-catering cottages just behind the Orangery, and sleeps 70 guests on the night of the wedding. Orchardleigh Castle sleeps up to 12 the night before and has a large private garden with an eight person hot tub. Lewis Lodge sleeps up to seven the night before, so both partners can be on the estate. Church Lodge is for the couple the night after, with a private hot tub for two. Further estate accommodation is usually available for longer stays.

Food and drink

Estate produce and the wedding breakfast

Wherever possible the kitchen is supplied with produce grown or reared on the estate or sourced locally, working with local farmers, gamekeepers and nurseries. The Eldon package has a four-course wedding breakfast prepared by the Executive Head Chef in the Orangery, with unlimited wine through the courses and a toast during the speeches; the Bumbelina package has three courses. Canapes come first and evening food follows. The morning after, breakfast is served in the Orangery, or brunch at The Peacock Restaurant on the estate. For dry hire, a full commercial kitchen is available to the couple's chosen caterers.

We honestly don’t know where to begin when it comes to thanking Annamarie and the Elmhay Park team for everything they did for us. From discovering the venue on an Open Day last year, we knew this space and vibe certainly made it the one for us!

From the very first meeting with Annamarie, we knew we were in good hands and she made the whole experience feel completely stress-free. She was knowledgeable, supportive and so incredibly attentive to every little detail. She went above and beyond for us in so many ways, always making sure that everything was exactly as we wanted it. We feel so lucky to have been appointed someone who cared so much about our day and who genuinely wanted it to be perfect for us. She made the whole experience feel effortless, personal and, most importantly, enjoyable.

...

The array of food we had was incredible - beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and complemented by impeccable service. Throughout the entire day, the team were so attentive, constantly checking in and making sure we were looked after without ever being intrusive. One of our favourite little touches was coming out of the ceremony to be greeted with a glass of fizz and a selection of canapés by the team. It was such a thoughtful and heartfelt gesture and made us feel so instantly cared for and celebrated. It’s those small, personal touches that really stay with you, and we are so grateful for how much thought went into making sure we were looked after from beginning to end. We never once felt like an afterthought; quite the opposite… we always felt like we were at the very heart of everything.

...

They didn't just help us create a wedding, they helped us create memories that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. We will be forever grateful to everyone at Elmhay Park for making our day so incredibly special, and we truly couldn't recommend them highly enough. Thank you for giving us the most perfect and unforgettable day.

Now that the confetti has settled, we wanted to say a huge thank you for making our Wedding weekend at Elmhay Park absolutely perfect.

Rachel, you were an absolute superstar from our very first meeting. We never felt like just another booking in a diary, your genuine care and support throughout the planning process meant so much, and on the day itself you made everything happen with such grace and seamlessness.

Chris and Heather, thank you both personally too. Your visibility throughout the weekend, from the bar on Friday to chatting with our guests on Saturday evening, made a real difference and showed we weren't just a "money moment" to you.

The estate is beautiful and the food, especially the Camembert and lamb, was incredible, but it's the personal touches that meant the most. From the brilliant start at The Peacock to the comfort of the cottages and the peaceful Sunday recovery we needed after all the happy tears, every moment was perfect.

Thank you for everything.

You have a wonderful team and a spectacular home, and we feel so lucky to have started our married life with you.
