Victorian manor in 300 acres of gardens and parkland · Harlaxton, near Grantham, Lincolnshire
A country house in rural Lincolnshire, built by Gregory Gregory from several architectural styles, where couples have the staterooms to themselves on the wedding day.
Harlaxton Manor is a country house in rural Lincolnshire, near Grantham. Gregory Gregory built it as a single stately home, shaped by his travels around England and Europe and by his wish to merge several architectural styles into one house. It now operates as Harlaxton College and is opened for weddings and events. The formal gardens were created as an integral part of the house, to give recreation, a connection to nature, room for social interaction and an appreciation of different outdoor moods. A dedicated events team runs the weddings, from small receptions to lavish wedding breakfasts.
The staterooms used for weddings are the Great Hall, Long Gallery, Gold Room, State Dining Room and Conservatory, with access to the formal gardens. The Great Hall has ornate oak panelling, a crystal chandelier and Italian marble flooring, and the Conservatory is almost unique in its design and its use of architectural elements. Outside, the gardens include French-style terraces, an Italian Garden, a Dutch ornamental canal and English landscape walks, which together make a varied series of contrived and natural outdoor spaces. Viewings for prospective couples are by appointment only, and walk-in visits cannot be offered. Weddings here are framed as flexible celebrations, from intimate gatherings to large receptions.
