About Horwood House Hotel & Spa

An independent Arts and Crafts manor near Milton Keynes with licensed ceremony spaces indoors and out, bedrooms on site and a boutique spa.

Horwood House in Buckinghamshire

Horwood House Hotel & Spa is an independent hotel, spa and estate near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire. At the end of a sweeping, tree-lined drive stands the Grade II listed Arts and Crafts manor house, bursting with period character, from its grand staircase and spectacular chandeliers to its lead light windows and intricate stonework. A contemporary wing sits beside it, a fusion of cool Scandinavian chic and botanical motifs, with refurbished bedrooms that reflect the woods, lawns and wildlife of the grounds. The gardener Percy Thrower was born here, and his horticultural influence is everywhere, from the artwork to the Manor Library, where the walls are themed around the old apple orchards that once grew at Horwood.

The manor looks over manicured lawns, and the hotel keeps the house as a photogenic backdrop to a celebration. On the morning of the wedding, the Manor Suites on the top floor of the original house serve as dressing rooms, with views down the driveway, so the couple can watch guests arrive. A dedicated wedding team is on hand through the day. The welcome is warm and informal, and with plenty of bedrooms on site nobody has to rush away. Dining is open to non-residents too, from lunch and afternoon tea to dinner, and the house is also somewhere to return to for anniversaries and gatherings after the wedding.

Ceremonies

Ceremonies in the house and gardens

The Drawing Room is a light and airy room for exchanging vows, with high ceilings, a grand stone fireplace and an impressive bay window. Neutral tones and subtly glistening wall coverings finish the room. It leads directly to the Manor Bar and a panelled seating area, with stone steps down to the grounds. The Eyre and Cook Suites are also licensed for larger numbers. Outdoors, the Blossom Garden is licensed for weddings and is reached past the lily pond and through the Secret Garden gate, with views back to the house. Vows can also be exchanged on the Manor House steps or beneath the ancient oak, and the Well, hidden in the woodland, is another setting for blessings and renewals.

Receptions

Drinks, wedding breakfast and evening

After the ceremony, the celebrations ramp up with a drinks reception in the house or the grounds. Prosecco, cocktail, Champagne or gin bars can be set up, accompanied by the chef's homemade canapés. There is plenty of space for outdoor games to keep children amused. Wedding breakfasts usually take place in the Eyre and Cook Suites, light and generous rooms that can be dressed to complement the chosen style and palette. The Cook Suite is the largest room, with space for up to 250 guests, and the Eyre Suite has direct access to the terrace and lawn. For a more intimate meal, the Drawing Room has views across the grounds. The evening is a party, with a dance floor.

Awareness of food allergies.

Very helpful & friendly staff on reception, had a problem with the room having a boxed in extractor, cannot sleep with white noise. It was dealt with immediately and they found us a new room. Hotel, overall was clean. Food in the restaurant was delicious. Friendly, cheerful service. Awareness of food allergies. Lovely building and grounds. Ample parking. Good price on a winter deal, use of sauna, swimming pool & steam room. Evening meal included £26 each, we both had two courses within that and a lovely buffet breakfast, was £160. Would suggest that 1 male, 1 female & 1 disabled shower in spa area might not be enough if hotel was very busy.
