A planner who grew up on the islands

Chic Bahamas Weddings is a destination wedding planning and design company based in the Bahamas, led by its founder, Marva Munroe, who was born and raised there. Marva began her career leading the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board, where she oversaw luxury events and international campaigns, and later set up the company to bring that logistical discipline to weddings for couples around the world.

The company specialises in multi-day weddings and full buyouts of boutique resorts and private villas. Its work centres on Eleuthera, Harbour Island, the Exumas and the Out Islands, and it also plans events across the rest of the Bahamas. It takes on a limited number of weddings each year, so that each couple has Marva’s attention from the first call to the last farewell.

No packages, no templates

Weddings are built around each island and venue rather than from templates or packages. The company works mainly on multi-day weddings of 75 to 150 guests or more, and prepares a proposal for each couple after an initial call. The same approach covers honeymoons, elopements and sunset proposals, anniversaries and milestone events, bachelor and bachelorette weekends, family reunions and private parties.

Design and the table

Creative direction runs from colour palettes to tablescapes, with floral design handled in the same hands. Venues and vendors come from the team’s network across Eleuthera, Harbour Island and the Out Islands, and the services include venue sourcing that ranges from private villas to boutique resorts.

A ceremony can also be arranged on a lawn, with a mirrored aisle lined with white flowers and an acrylic canopy at the far end, and a reception can end with Junkanoo performers in full costume dancing with the couple.

From first call to farewell brunch

Every wedding starts with a private call about the couple’s vision, priorities and the experience they want their guests to have. A custom proposal follows, and the team then develops the design and sources the venue and vendors. The team also handles flights, accommodation, ground transport and excursions for guests, and keeps the couple updated through digital planning tools. Marva and her team are on site for the welcome gatherings, the ceremony, the reception and the farewell brunch.

Marva is supported by Donovan Munroe, logistics manager and producer, and Davante Dorsett, production assistant and coordinator. Raine Munroe, administrative manager, handles permits, shipping and communication with local authorities. Its work has been featured in Over The Moon, Brides, Travel + Leisure, Destination I Do and PartySlate.

Marrying in the Bahamas

The licence is obtained on the island where the wedding takes place, and couples must arrive at least 24 hours before applying. Offices are closed at weekends, and no blood test is required. The team assists with the application, and the licence fee is included in the planning services. For the ceremony itself, the team can connect couples with an ordained minister, a rabbi, an imam or a Justice of the Peace.
