About The Goring

A perfectly English hotel in Belgravia where weddings move between silk-lined private rooms, the Garden Room and a private garden in season.

The Goring in Belgravia

The Goring is a perfectly English hotel, and it has been in the business of occasions for well over a century. The feeling is of home, if home came with perfectly plumped pillows. Weddings here have a traditional English tone with a playful streak, with scarlet-clad footmen, footmen in bowler hats, ebullient bartenders and velvet-coated waiters. Hand-painted wallpaper in the interiors shows monkeys in silks and seals in bow ties making merry behind the scenes. Inside, guests can sip a martini in the Cocktail Bar or take afternoon tea on The Veranda, and the formality is always tempered with a little mischief and a cheeky wink.

A dedicated wedding planner looks after the day from the first visit to the last petit four, supported by a cast of footmen, florists, chefs and sommeliers. Each couple is offered a personalised wedding package, and the aim is a day that is delightfully stress-free. Wedding parties can run over several days, with a rehearsal dinner, a croquet-and-cocktails afternoon in the garden and a brunch the morning after. Couples are also welcome back for anniversaries, which can include Champagne in the suite, afternoon tea, late checkout and a handwritten menu recalling dishes from the wedding day.

Vows in the Goring Garden

The Goring is fully licensed to host ceremonies on the premises, so weddings and civil partnerships can be held in any of its private rooms, which have silk-lined walls and gleaming chandeliers. A ceremony takes up to 50 guests. If the season allows, vows can instead be made in the Goring Garden, a large private garden in central London. Couples who prefer a church wedding have Westminster Cathedral, St Peter’s in Eton Square and St Michael’s in Chester Square nearby.

Parties in the Garden Room

The Garden Room is the largest of the private spaces at 86m2, flooded with light and looking across the meticulously kept lawn. A conservatory area has a sliding glass wall that opens onto the garden in warmer months, and a private patio leads out to the gardens, which lets a party move between indoors and out. The room is fitted with a screen and a projector. The Silver Room is a more intimate private room with sumptuous silks. A standing reception takes up to 100 guests. The whole hotel can also be taken as a Private Rental, which gives a couple their own hotel for one or two days.

Suites for the wedding night

The Goring has 69 rooms and suites, each individually designed, with Gainsborough silks and hand-picked antiques and, in some, sweeping garden views. The Belgravia Suite and The Royal Suite suit a wedding night, and The Royal Suite comes with its own cocktail hour and footman. A short journey upstairs leads to a Goring Suite, where a bottle of cold Champagne waits at the end of the night. Staying on site means nobody arrives late or leaves early, and a sensational breakfast follows the next morning.

Across a celebration the table can run from long lunches and candlelit dinners and breakfast in bed, brunch and late evening menus.
