A riad behind the Spice Market

Dar Jaguar stands in the Rahba Kedima area of the Marrakech medina, less than five minutes’ walk from Jemaa El Fnaa Square and next to the Spice Market. It was restored as a private guesthouse and combines traditional Moroccan architecture with European romanticism. Hand-carved plasterwork, bejewelled lights and golden bath tubs were made by artists and craftsmen of Marrakech.

The courtyard

The riad is built around a central courtyard of palm trees, bougainvillea and a fountain filled with rose petals, where breakfast is served. Three salons, a plunge pool and a roof terrace overlooking the city complete the house.

Five rooms

There are five en suite rooms. The first-floor Royal Suite, The State of Grace, has a king-size four-poster bed, an open fireplace, a private Juliet balcony and a freestanding copper bath. The others are Babylonian Vamp, a junior suite with three windows over the courtyard, Damascan Blush, an ochre-walled room with a dove-grey bathroom, Peridot’s Powder Room, behind tall cedar doors that open onto the courtyard, and Gossamer Wings, an aquamarine room with five windows over the fountain.

Celebrations

The riad hosts intimate weddings, elopements and vow renewals, with a seated banquet for 25 to 30 guests and a standing reception for about 50. Honeymoons, anniversaries and hen weekends are also welcomed, and a wedding design and planning team can arrange locations in and outside Marrakech.
