Retreat East is a sixteenth-century farm near Hemingstone in Suffolk, restored and set in 35 acres of wildflower meadows. It operates as a wellness retreat with a spa and a restaurant, and for weddings the whole estate is taken on an exclusive-use basis, so the barn, walled garden, grounds and buildings belong to a single party. Ipswich and its railway station are about 15 minutes away, the Suffolk coast about 40 minutes, and Stansted Airport about an hour.
The Great Barn is oak-framed and triple-height, and it holds both the ceremony and the reception beneath its timber trusses, with room for around 150 guests at the ceremony and around 120 at the wedding breakfast. Couples can instead marry in the private walled garden, where the Farmhouse is licensed for a garden ceremony. Twenty-eight restored barns and rooms provide places to stay across the estate, and the restaurant cooks seasonal, farm-to-fork menus, while private catering is also welcome. Pricing is arranged on enquiry.
