Elizabeth Hsieh Make Up Artist

Elizabeth Hsieh began in medicine and retrained as a makeup artist, studying at the Glauca Rossi School of Fashion and Photographic Make-Up in central London, where she now teaches. More than nineteen years on, she works as a one-person service for brides in London, across the UK and overseas.

Her fashion background is substantial. She worked backstage at the couture shows in New York, Milan, London and Paris beside Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tilbury and Gucci Westman, and was then invited to join Val Garland as her full-time first assistant. Credits include Vogue Arabia, Vogue Italia, Vogue Philippines, ELLE, GQ Style and L'Oréal Paris, plus music videos for Sam Smith with Kim Petras and for Joss Stone.

Alongside that career she keeps a wedding portfolio with galleries that name forty-six weddings, each with its own gallery. Venues range from Dartmouth House, Four Seasons Park Lane and Corinthia London to Hampton Court Palace, Coworth Park, Notley Abbey and Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, and the list includes a civil wedding in Lisbon and a ceremony at Westminster Cathedral.

Her approach to a wedding morning is calm and personal. A full consultation and trial come first, and on the day she looks after the bride, bridesmaids and mothers, stays for touch-ups and can change the look for an evening outfit. She draws on twenty-seven product houses, among them Chanel, Dior, Charlotte Tilbury, Armani Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs, Tom Ford and YSL, choosing by what suits each skin rather than by a single house style.

Questions couples ask

Before you write to them

What does Elizabeth Hsieh specialise in?

Bridal, fashion and editorial makeup, drawn from more than nineteen years of work. Her wedding portfolio names more than forty weddings in London, the UK and abroad.

What does she charge?

On request. Her bridal information describes the process but gives no figures, so a quotation follows an enquiry with the date and venue.

Is a trial included?

Yes. The consultation and trial makeover take around two hours for makeup, or three when hair is added, and continue until the look is settled.

Will she travel for a destination wedding?

Yes. She works across the UK and overseas, and her portfolio includes a civil wedding in Lisbon.

Can she look after the bridal party?

Yes. Bridesmaids and mothers are a service in their own right, and her galleries show parties of three to five.

Which products does she use?

She works from twenty-seven luxury houses, including Chanel, Dior, Charlotte Tilbury, Armani Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs, Tom Ford and YSL, selected for the skin in front of her.

Does she only do bridal work?

No. Fashion, beauty, celebrity, television, film and music video makeup sit alongside weddings, with credits for Vogue, ELLE, L'Oréal Paris, Adidas and Creed.

Does she also style hair?

Yes. Trials can include hair, and her wedding galleries show full bridal hair styling.

How did she come to makeup?

She trained as a doctor first, then studied at the Glauca Rossi School of Fashion and Photographic Make-Up in central London, where she also teaches.

Does she work with a range of skin tones?

Clients' written testimonials on her website make the point from different angles, including one bride who credits her with understanding black skin and another who recommends her to brides with East Asian features.
