Langley Castle Hotel in Northumberland is licensed for civil marriages and has built a wedding service around the building. The team handles coordination and advises on menus and wines, and describes the aim as letting couples enjoy the day while the arrangements are looked after. Couples are welcome to visit beforehand to see the rooms and talk through their plans.
Small ceremonies can take place in the Cadwallader Bates Memorial Room, the turret chapel restored in 2006, which holds up to 30 guests and also hosts services of blessing, renewals of vows and baby naming ceremonies. Outdoors, a gazebo on the lawn facing the main entrance is licensed for ceremonies, with guests seated on the grass and the castle and fountain behind the couple. In poor weather the ceremony moves into the Drawing Room or the Josephine Restaurant, a decision taken two hours beforehand by the registrar and hotel management.
