Matfen Hall is a five star country house hotel in Northumberland, standing in private parkland and reached along a tree-lined drive through a valley of peaceful countryside. The estate takes in the hall itself, landscaped gardens, a golf course and a spa, so a wedding sits within a wider country estate. Weddings centre on the Great Hall, and the offering also draws on the Cloisters, the Courtyard and a run of reception rooms. A dedicated Wedding Planner works with each couple from their first visit to the day itself, and the hotel also welcomes proposals and vow renewals.
Couples can choose a wedding package or take exclusive use of the entire estate, with the bedrooms, dining destinations, spa and golf course all included in the takeover. Planning begins from the moment of enquiry, followed by complimentary showrounds and a complimentary menu tasting, where the team presents the venues and ideas for canapés and courses. A master of ceremonies is part of the standard packages, and the ceremony and celebration spaces are exclusively the couple's for the day. A team of event specialists supports the planning and attends to every detail, and the same estate also holds birthdays, baby showers and christenings.

In the Great Hall, couples sweep down the oak staircase and say their vows beneath a starry ceiling, by the fire, in light from the hall's original stained glass window. Le Jardin Hollandaise is the main choice for couples who want an outdoor wedding, with views over the private parkland and the Northumbrian scenery beyond. For a more traditional service, Holy Trinity Church is a short walk away in Matfen Village.
After the ceremony, the Complete Wedding Experience brings a Champagne reception to the Great Hall, where guests raise a glass, enjoy canapés chosen by the couple and listen to a pianist on the grand piano. The wedding breakfast is held in the Morning Room, which becomes the couple's own for the meal. The Drawing Room is an alternative for wedding breakfasts, with a fireplace originally commissioned for Buckingham Palace. In the evening the underground Vault Bar is where celebrations typically take place, with a DJ, an evening supper and a bar. The Needham Bar has an open fire and is a place for a nightcap, where two families can connect and reminisce. A late licence to 1.30 am can be added.
The Luxury Suites are in the original house, with views over Northumberland parkland, and suit a first night as newly married couples. Each has an Emperor bed with Lansdowne Cashmere mattresses, antique Victorian furniture and soaring ceilings. Bathrooms are accessorised with Carrara marble, with a roll-top bath, walk-in shower and underfloor heating. Guests booking a suite are offered a private chauffeur arrival within a specified radius, a bottle of Hepple Gin on arrival and a seasonal floral arrangement from a local florist.
Wedding packages include reception drinks and canapés, then a three-course wedding breakfast with wine and Champagne for toasts. The Sapphire Room is used for private dining, with intricate coving, a marble fireplace and a picture window overlooking the parkland. The estate also has several dining and drinking venues, among them The Emerald Restaurant, Cloisters Restaurant and Bar, The Keepers and The Wine Cellar.
