Renaissance Medici castle with a private park, in the fortified town of Terra del Sole, Emilia-Romagna
5.02 reviewsCastello del Capitano delle Artiglierie is a Medici castle of 1564 in Terra del Sole, hosting one wedding a day for up to 200 guests, with a one-hectare park and five suites.
Castello del Capitano delle Artiglierie stands in the fortified town of Terra del Sole in Emilia-Romagna, built in 1564 as a Medici fortress by order of Cosimo I. Its original character survives in painted wooden ceilings, former guard galleries and frescoes, recovered in a restoration between 2009 and 2018, and a one-hectare park surrounds it. The castle is used exclusively, with one wedding a day and up to 200 guests.
Ceremonies, whether civil, symbolic or religious at the church of Santa Reparata 50 metres away, are followed by drinks and a seated dinner in the grounds. The historic halls provide a plan B in bad weather, and Le Chateau Club continues the party late into the night. Five suites sleep up to 15 people, and an in-house wedding planner works with couples from abroad in English.

The castle was built in 1564 as a Medici fortress in the fortified town of Terra del Sole, founded by Cosimo I to protect the border between Romagna and Tuscany. It stands above Porta Fiorentina, one of the town's two gates, and a restoration between 2009 and 2018 recovered its frescoes, coffered ceilings and original portals.

The one-hectare park offers several settings for the vows, from the Cannoniere to the lawn facing the castle. The castle is authorised for legally binding civil weddings, a symbolic ceremony can also be arranged, and the church of Santa Reparata is 50 metres away for a religious service.

Dinner is served on the lawn in front of the castle, and guests can move to a buffet drinks reception in another part of the grounds. The Ballroom, the Gallery and the Fireplace Room hold the reception if it rains, and Le Chateau Club, the castle's own club, keeps the party going late.

The castle hosts one event a day, so couples have the whole property to themselves, with an in-house wedding planner for the planning and the day itself. Five suites sleep up to 15 people, and can be used for getting ready.

Cristina and Marco said the venue was like a fairy tale, with spacious indoor and outdoor areas cared for down to the smallest detail by owner Cesare and his partner Michelle. They valued the rooms for staying overnight with friends and family and for getting ready, the indoor dance floor, and the chance to do their photoshoot on site without disappearing from their own party.
