Restored 500-year-old kasbah and palm oasis in the Drâa Valley, near Agdz, Morocco
Kasbah des Caïds is a restored fortified kasbah in the palm oasis of Tamnougalt in Morocco's Drâa Valley, with weddings held in the Oasis Garden, on the rooftop and in the courtyard.
Kasbah des Caïds stands in the palm-filled oasis of Tamnougalt, in Morocco's Drâa Valley near the town of Agdz. The fortified kasbah is around 500 years old and once sheltered caravans crossing from the Sahara towards Marrakech. Its rammed-earth walls, carved doorways and rooftop terraces have been restored from ruins over the last 25 years by the original family owner.
Ceremonies take place in the Oasis Garden, a 14,000 square metre palm grove beside the river with three ceremony areas for around 70, 100 and 200 guests. The rooftop terrace holds up to 60 guests and the inner courtyard up to 35, and the courtyard serves as the backup ceremony space. The garden has a kitchen for caterers, four restrooms and a car park, and it lies an 8 minute walk from the kasbah. Couples bring their own caterers, florists, musicians and planners. Alcohol may be served in the Oasis but not inside the kasbah.
The kasbah has 10 rooms, with further guests staying in hotels nearby. Marrakech is 250 km away by road, and a wedding can be extended into a Sahara journey to the Merzouga dunes.
