Private Georgian mansion and seven gardens on a 12-acre hilltop estate in Phuket
5.02 reviewsThe Vanderbilt Estate is a private Georgian mansion set in seven gardens across 12 acres in Thalang, Phuket, reserved exclusively for one wedding party at a time.
The Vanderbilt Estate is a private Georgian mansion on a hilltop in Thalang, Phuket, with views across the surrounding mountains. It was designed with a London architect as a Georgian house suited to life in the tropics, and construction began in 2015 and took eight years. Inside, antique teak floors, terracotta tiles and natural linens frame an art collection assembled over more than sixty years, including antiquities dating back to the first century BC. The Dining Room is lined with hand-painted Qing Dynasty wallpaper about 350 years old, and the Main Hall rises to a nine-metre cupola.
Around the house, twelve acres are laid out as seven gardens. A Grand Lawn of about 2,500 square metres is the centre of the grounds, with a Formal Garden, pavilion and amphitheatre to one side, a park with an ornamental pond and swans, a Japanese garden with a koi pond and a Buddha lawn inspired by Sukhothai Historical Park. The pool is finished in volcanic lava tiles. A 300-square-metre verandah looks over the gardens and the lake. Weddings follow a single arc across the grounds, from pre-wedding photography and cocktails on the verandahs, to a ceremony beneath the pavilion or elsewhere in the gardens, and dinner under the stars or in a marquee. The estate is a private residence, so no other event or guest shares the grounds during a wedding.

The mansion was designed with a London architect and built over eight years from 2015, with antique teak floors, terracotta tiles and natural linens throughout. A nine-metre cupola lights the Main Hall, and the Dining Room is lined with hand-painted Qing Dynasty wallpaper about 350 years old. The art collection, assembled over more than sixty years, includes antiquities dating back to the 1st century BC.

The grounds unfold as a sequence of gardens: the Grand Lawn of about 2,500 square metres, a Formal Garden with a pavilion and amphitheatre, a park with an ornamental pond and swans, a Japanese garden with a koi pond, and a Buddha lawn inspired by Sukhothai Historical Park. The 250,000-litre pool is finished in natural volcanic lava tiles.

The estate is a private residence, so no other event, guest or shared space intrudes during a wedding. The day can move from pre-wedding photography through cocktails on the verandahs and gardens, to a ceremony and a dinner under the stars or in a marquee, and on to music and dancing.

The whole residence and its gardens are reserved for one wedding party, with no competing events or shared spaces.
Ceremonies can take place beneath the Pavilion in the Formal Garden or in other garden settings, designed around the couple's own traditions.

The 2,500-square-metre Grand Lawn holds up to 300 guests for a ceremony, 250 for dinner and 350 for the reception.
Dinner is served under the stars or in an elegant marquee, with bespoke menus prepared by culinary partners.

The Drawing Room, Library, Music Room and Dining Room hold antiques, paintings and a wine room, and serve as indoor settings for receptions.
A lava-tiled pool, an ornamental pond with swans and a 300-square-metre verandah overlooking the gardens fill the days around the wedding.

An absolutely amazing experience. The attention to detail was second to none. The staff were all excellent and eager to help with any queries any of us had no mater how trivial or complicated they were. The cinema room was a pure escape whilst the swimming pool and grounds ensured you could escape and be at one with nature whenever you wanted.
If one is looking for a true sanctuary I would strongly urge you to get in touch with the team as you will not be disappointed. This matches anything I have seen globally.
