Exclusive-use castle with a 15th-century keep · South Queensferry, near Edinburgh
A castle near South Queensferry, taken as a whole for each wedding, with a medieval Auld Keep, a loch, lawns and a permanent Pavilion.
Dundas Castle is a Scottish castle near South Queensferry, close to the historic city of Edinburgh. It is run as an exclusive-use five-star venue, so a wedding party are the only guests at the castle at any one time. The grounds hold lawns, gardens and a loch with a Boathouse on it, and the oldest part of the castle is the medieval tower known as the Auld Keep. Indoor spaces include the Main Hall, the Library, the Drawing Room, the Croquet Room and the Stag Chamber, and a permanent Pavilion is used for larger gatherings. The surroundings feel secluded while the city is a short distance away.
Weddings are planned step by step with dedicated wedding planners, who talk couples through each part of the day. The Dundas team recommends tried and trusted suppliers, from florists and photographers to pipers and firework specialists, who become part of the team on the day. The planning team supports the day from morning preparations to the final song. For a multi-day wedding, the events team can arrange entertainment across the estate, such as whisky tasting, falconry and clay pigeon shooting. The estate also has mapped walks, a croquet lawn, an indoor squash court and a billiard table, so a wedding party has plenty to do across the estate.

Ceremonies can be led by an independent celebrant. The Great Hall in the Auld Keep is reached by a staircase from the medieval tower and has a vaulted ceiling and original stonework. The Main Hall has a stained glass window, a grand staircase and panelled walls. Outdoors, the Courtyard has a white stone fountain and coloured arched doors, and the Front Lawn and estate gardens let couples be married with the castle behind them. Couples may also marry in a church elsewhere and then return to the castle to continue the celebrations.

Drinks are served in and around the castle rooms, with fizz or personalised cocktails while the couple step away for photographs. Lawn games can be set up, and guests can relax in the Drawing Room or Library. The Armoury in the Auld Keep has an original open fireplace and is used for smaller gatherings. The wedding breakfast is held in rooms such as the Croquet Room and the Stag Chamber, or in the Pavilion, which has the facilities for a wedding breakfast and dance. Dinner seats up to 180 guests, and the night can close with fireworks or a pipe band performing the Beating of the Retreat.

The castle is booked in its entirety for an event, and individual bedroom bookings are not taken. Individually styled bedrooms are in the Main House, Courtyard Cottage and Stables, each with White Company linen, and the House and Stables rooms come with complimentary whisky. Some have fabric walls, original roll-top baths or a four-poster bed. Couples can visit beforehand to allocate rooms. The Boathouse on the loch can be hired separately.

Heritage Portfolio is the castle's caterer. Menus can be personalised, with a tasting before the wedding. The chefs focus on sustainability, seasonality and provenance when sourcing, and work to standards including Red Tractor Assurance, MSC Certification, Freedom Food and LEAF. Menus are reviewed each year to keep the offering current, and the dining holds the VisitScotland Taste our Best award. All food can be Halal, and Kosher-style dishes are available.
