Exclusive-use Georgian manor hotel in 20 acres above the Taw valley · Burrington, North Devon
A Georgian country house hotel in North Devon with exclusive-use weddings, two licensed ceremony rooms and a two AA Rosette kitchen
Northcote Manor Country House Hotel is an independent Georgian manor at Burrington, near Umberleigh, in North Devon. It stands in mature woodland, lawns and gardens overlooking the Taw Valley and the surrounding countryside. Weddings here take the whole house, so the couple and their guests have the lounges, the restaurant, the bedrooms and the grounds to themselves for the whole celebration, without interruption. The house has relaxed lounges, a restaurant and a spa, and the grounds take in a walled garden, a water garden with a bridge and apple orchards. Indoor and outdoor settings are used across the seasons.
A dedicated wedding planner looks after the arrangements, and the packages include room hire, full banqueting services and fresh house flowers. The hotel keeps a suppliers list of local florists, cake makers, musicians, make-up artists and photographers, and promotes local dressmakers, florists and cake makers more widely. Photographers are not part of the packages, but the planner can recommend them. Several packages are offered, and a proposal can be put together where none of them fits. After the ceremony the house changes over for dining, speeches and the evening celebrations. Guests staying the night before the wedding can use the spa.

Couples choose between two licensed indoor ceremony rooms, the Conservatory and the Oak Room. The Conservatory is spacious and light-filled, with sweeping views over the North Devon countryside. It is a slate-roofed conservatory that opens onto the sun terrace and the walled garden, so guests step straight outside after the vows. The Oak Room is grand and vintage-chic, with a bay window where couples take their vows. Both rooms are used come sunshine or snow.

After the ceremony guests can be led out into the grounds and woodlands for bubbles and canapes, champagne afternoon teas or punch, while the couple are photographed before dinner. The bridge over the water garden and the apple orchards are two of the photograph locations. The banqueting set covers up to 55 guests, with linen, cutlery and Cheltenham chairs. Evening receptions take up to 180 guests, and the bar is fully licensed and cash-only. Evening food runs from homemade nibbles and bacon butties to homemade pizzas or a full buffet. Fireworks are allowed, using a supplier that has completed risk assessments for the grounds.

The hotel has 16 bedrooms and suites, all ensuite, from classic rooms to larger suites, with views over the grounds. The interiors are eclectic, and rooms come with homemade treats. The Run of the House packages include all 16 with breakfast between 8am and 10am, plus bed and breakfast for two in a suite the night before and two 60-minute spa treatments the day before.

All catering is in house, and outside caterers are not used for the wedding breakfast. The Executive Chef cooks from a two AA Rosette kitchen with local ingredients from the Devon countryside and sea. The Stafford Package and the Gracey Package each set out welcome drinks, canapes, a three-course meal, wine, a Champagne toast and an evening buffet. Dishes include North Devon Red Ruby beef, Heal Farm Tamworth pork and Cornish white crab, and menus can be adapted to dietary requirements.

All packages include the manor, lounges, restaurant, 16 rooms and grounds from noon to 11am the next day.

We would like to say what an amazing weekend Northcote Manor created for our wedding on 1st November. The organisation throughout the year, and across the wedding weekend itself, was seamless, allowing us to relax and truly enjoy every moment.
Northcote is a beautiful venue, and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. A special mention must go to Richie and the entire team, who went above and beyond to make our wedding such a memorable and pleasurable experience. The staff were helpful, efficient and incredibly polite, a real credit to Northcote.
