Villa Mosconi Bertani at Arbizzano di Negrar is a wedding venue made of the working rooms of a wine estate, fifteen minutes from Verona in Veneto. A barrel room that seats 160, an eighteenth century kitchen with a very large original hearth, a frescoed hall three floors high and a chapel with a bell tower all belong to one Valpolicella complex, and the villa is still the seat of a winery.

A villa that was a literary salon

The Veronese architect Adriano Cristofali designed the villa for the Fattori family, who began it in the early eighteenth century beside a sixteenth century dwelling and winery. The Mosconi family bought the unfinished house in 1769, completed it and added an English style romantic park of eight hectares. In their time it became a literary salon, and the poet Ippolito Pindemonte was among its visitors. The main building rises through three floors, with a Tuscan order on the ground floor and an Ionic order above. The Bertani family bought and restored the villa in the 1950s as the seat of their winery, and it remains the seat of a winery today.

The Chamber of the Muses

The main hall is the Chamber of the Muses, three floors high, with eighteenth century frescoes, stone flooring and a central ceiling fresco credited to Giuseppe Valliani, known as Il Pistoiese. It holds 100 guests seated or 150 standing.

The barrel room and the old kitchen

The Antica Tinaia is the old barrel room, with a tall wooden beamed ceiling; audio and video projection are fitted in selected rooms. It seats up to 160 guests. The Antica Cucina is the eighteenth century kitchen, with a very large original hearth. Eleven further rooms from the 1700s are air conditioned and have wifi, and the historic cellars host tastings on request.

The chapel, the gardens and the park

San Gaetano is a chapel with a bell tower, built into the estate, with room for 70 people, and it is used for Protestant religious ceremonies. Civil ceremonies with legal value are offered in the villa, the gardens or the park. The eight hectare park has a pond with an island reached by a wooden bridge, a lakeside coffee house called the Kaffeehaus and an outdoor kitchen. The secret garden is suited to cocktails, dinners and late night parties, and is private, with magnolias that are centuries old, and the front garden is framed by the neoclassical facade.

Planning your wedding

No wedding price is recorded. The villa’s hire options are structured as the whole complex, the gardens and the Antica Tinaia for a full day, with lunch, dinner or a buffet from 10am until 1am, or the Antica Tinaia alone for a full day, an evening or a half day; additional hours can be added on request. The estate arranges hotel and B&B booking for guests; no on-site bedrooms are confirmed. Verona airport is 25 minutes away, Lake Garda at Lazise 32 minutes, and the nearest station is Verona Porta Nuova. What a wedding costs, and whether the villa can be hired for one party alone, are the first questions for the estate.

A working winery for a wedding

For a seated wedding of up to 160 guests, the Antica Tinaia is the largest of the rooms with a stated capacity, and the Chamber of the Muses seats 100. Services include catering, floral design, a cocktail bar, photography, video and drone footage, transfers and childcare. Check your date through the venue’s page on 5 Star Weddings.
