About Fulham Palace

Fulham Palace is the former country residence of the Bishops of London, a Grade I listed Tudor palace with four licensed ceremony rooms in a 13-acre botanic garden on the Thames.

Fulham Palace was the country residence of the Bishops of London, and the church has held the site since AD 704. The Tudor Courtyard and Great Hall date to around 1495, the east front was rebuilt in the 1760s, and the Grade I listed palace now sits within 13 acres of botanic garden on the north bank of the Thames. Putney Bridge Underground station is about ten minutes away on foot.

Four rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies, among them the Great Hall for up to 110 guests and Bishop Sherlock's Room for up to 80. The open Tudor Courtyard holds ceremonies of up to 180 and seats 200 for a reception, and Bishop Tait's Chapel takes blessings of up to 90. The Chaplain's Marquee and the Botanic Gardens, which take up to 500, handle larger parties. Catering is exclusive to Bovingdons Catering. The palace has no bedrooms, so guests stay in hotels in Fulham, Putney or Hammersmith. Venue hire started from £1,750 at the 2024 rates, excluding VAT.

Four licensed rooms and a courtyard

Civil ceremonies can be held in four licensed rooms, among them the panelled Great Hall and Bishop Sherlock's Room beneath its plaster ceiling. The open courtyard of red brick around a fountain suits larger ceremonies of up to 180.

A botanic garden on the river

Thirteen acres of garden run to the edge of the Thames, with a walled garden and lawns first planted with exotics under Bishop Compton. An independent trust has cared for the site since 2011, and the garden gives drinks and photographs a green backdrop in the middle of London.
