Monica Gobbi D'Alò and MGDA Events

MGDA Events is based in Rome and plans weddings in the city for couples who come from abroad. Monica Gobbi D'Alò describes herself as a dreamshaper. She has organised upward of 500 international and Italian events, corporate and private, over more than two decades.

Before weddings she worked in international marketing, which she credits for the negotiating and budget discipline behind her creative work. She holds an ABC Professional Bridal Consultant qualification and a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English.

The practice is offered in stages. Full Co-ordination follows a wedding from its first idea, Partial Co-ordination builds around a venue the couple has already chosen, On the Day Co-ordination handles the day for couples who have done the planning themselves, and a Rescue Package supports those who need help in the final weeks. Civil unions are a named service of their own.

Monica puts the work at about 150 hours per wedding, roughly four full-time working weeks, spent on vendor research, budget management and design decisions. Her method is to listen first, offer options rather than a single house style and hold the budget to the figure agreed.

Her portfolio runs through Rome's historic setting: Baroque basilicas on the Aventine Hill, frescoed palazzo halls and garden loggias hung with lanterns. She appears in most of her own photographs, signing the register, pinning up the seating plan and dancing with her couples.

After going through two wedding planners that did not work out, she was truly a joy to find! Monica is professional, on time, communicative and very sweet. She will take detailed notes on your ideas and make sure they are executed in ways that are even better than you expected. During our day, we had a lot of moving pieces. We were moving from different places around the hotel and it started to rain. Monica worked with the hotel's team seamlessly to make sure we were on time despite changing the venue due to the weather all while keeping the guests and the people in the wedding ceremony organized. There was a lot to ask of her and she was always engaged and connected with you throughout the day. What does MGDA Events charge?

The fee is scoped to the wedding. An indicative starting figure for full-service planning is €3,500. Monica's own benchmark of about 150 hours per wedding gives a good sense of the size of the job.

How far ahead should we book?

No fixed window applies. With roughly 150 hours of work per wedding, about four full-time working weeks, earlier is easier for a full planning brief.

Does MGDA plan civil unions?

Yes. Civil unions are a named service, planned to the same standard as a full wedding.

What if we need help but the wedding is only weeks away?

The Rescue Package is a defined service for exactly that situation, rather than a reduced version of full planning.

What if we have already booked our venue?

Partial Co-ordination is built around a venue that is already chosen, adding the vendors, design and logistics around it.

Does MGDA plan weddings outside Rome?

The practice is centred on Rome, for couples who live elsewhere and are marrying in the city.

Does MGDA plan events other than weddings?

Yes. A separate Eventi arm covers birthdays, anniversaries, christenings and corporate events, run by the same team.

Has MGDA been recognised publicly?

Monica's work received a nomination in the Destination Wedding category at the 2016 Italian Wedding Awards and a 2016 Matrimonio.com Wedding Award decided by couples' votes. It has also featured on RAI 2 television and in a TGCOM24 report.
