Tomas De Bruyne

Tomas De Bruyne designs flowers at the scale of architecture. From his studio in Ruddervoorde, near Bruges, he creates conceptual installations in which the floral work behaves more like a built structure than a set of arrangements, from a canopy hung over a glasshouse dinner to a ceremony pavilion set against a lagoon or a palace facade.

Every commission starts with a conversation about the vision, the venue and the scale of the celebration. It develops into an architectural concept, supported by drawings and renderings, and Tomas and his studio team then build and install the design on site.

His work crosses continents and cultures. Recent weddings include a grand celebration at Misericordia in Venice, a red-themed glasshouse wedding at the JW Marriott Hotel in Venice, a second-generation family wedding that travelled from Rajasthan to Budapest, a five-day Mehndi-to-wedding celebration in Lahore inspired by Mughal architecture, and a reception at the Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta.

Blush and pastel run through much of the portfolio, expanding into bold red, pink and green or white and gold according to the culture and setting. Garden roses, orchid, hydrangea and chrysanthemum are among the flowers he favours, with seasonal and imported blooms sourced as the design requires.

The studio has been featured in The Telegraph, Wedluxe and The Times of India, among others, and won Favourite Floral Design, Europe and Asia at the RSVP Symposium Awards in 2024. A book, The Art of Design, is due in 2026, together with a twenty-five-metre floral installation opening in Shanghai. Tomas also teaches one-to-one floral design classes.
