Studio Fotografico Bacci

Studio Fotografico Bacci is run by Barbara and Federico, who photograph every wedding as a pair. They founded the wedding studio in 2012 and work from Pontassieve, a short drive east of Florence. The Bacci name is older: Federico has written that his grandfather opened the business as a family photography shop in 1951, and in an interview with CanvasRebel he described himself as the third generation of wedding photographers, after his grandfather and his mother. Barbara came to photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, through a film course.

Their starting point is documentary. Most of the day is photographed as it happens, with no traditional posing, and they say they look for a series of pictures that tells the whole day rather than isolated frames. When the light or the architecture is right, they slow things down for a few minutes and make something more composed, then step back again. They name Pre-Raphaelite painting, cinema, Pictorialism and twentieth-century film photography as influences, and their galleries move between warm colour, black and white and scanned film.

“A wedding gallery should not look like the same photograph repeated hundreds of times.”

Barbara and Federico

Two photographers are part of the standard service; for very small weddings they suggest one, so the day stays intimate. Before the wedding they work with the planner and other suppliers on the timeline. Couples can add an engagement session, coverage of a welcome dinner or farewell event, a film photography service, an extra photographer for weddings of more than 150 guests, a content creator, or fast delivery in one week. They do not make films, and are happy to recommend videographers.

Tuscany is home ground, from Florence, Artimino and Mezzomonte to Cortona and the Val d'Orcia, and their journal also covers weddings in Umbria, in Friuli at Castello di Spessa, in Sorrento and in Calabria, as well as Paris. Their site has pages for New York, San Francisco, Maine, London, Lanzarote, the Dolomites, Rome and Lake Como, and their About page counts weddings in 11 states. They take a limited number of weddings each year (25 on their FAQ, 30 on their contact page).

A preview of around 15 photographs usually arrives 48 to 72 hours after the wedding, and the full online gallery of edited pictures follows 45 to 60 days later. Rangefinder named them among its 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography in December 2020. They also teach, running workshops and mentoring for other photographers.

How they work

From the first message to the day itself

  1. 01Enquiry

Use the form on their contact page with your date, venue, social handles, budget and any extras you are considering. They say they answer every enquiry; if you hear nothing within 24 hours, email [email protected].

  2. 02Booking

They send a contract setting out the service. The date is held once the signed contract and the agreed deposit are back with them. They usually book about a year and a half ahead.

  3. 03Engagement session

Optional, and recommended. A relaxed session before the wedding to get to know each other and get used to the camera; the pictures also suit save-the-dates.

  4. 04Planning the day

In the run-up to the wedding they work with your planner and the other suppliers, go through the timeline and talk through any concerns in advance.

  5. 05The wedding day

Two photographers as standard, working mostly in a documentary way, with short portrait sessions fitted around the day rather than one long absence from your guests.

  6. 06Preview and gallery

Around 15 photographs as a preview 48 to 72 hours after the wedding, then the full online gallery of edited pictures 45 to 60 days later, or in one week if you book fast delivery.

Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte wedding, Florence

Idk where to start with this fabulous duo. From the initial communication of our vision, to the flawless execution and fantastic follow ups, they DELIVERED.

We wanted part film, part digital, some posing some natural documentary style. And everything came out amazingly. They were somehow everywhere all the time and capture every important moment.

They delivered a sneak preview with -a couple dozen photos two days after the event which was amazing because everyone was asking us for photos. About a month and a half later they delivered the full album and we were overwhelmed with the quality. We have also asked for a couple of video Instagram stories that we ended up loving.

They also posted several collections of photos from the event on their Instagram and honestly took work off of our plates because those collections were fantastic. Can’t recommend them enough.

Don’t think twice 10/10!!

Tenuta di Artimino wedding, Tuscany

We were so impressed by and happy to work with Barby & Fede from start to finish. They truly take the time and care to get to know the couple they are working with, what your vision and style are, what inspires you and thoughtfully garner many other personal details in the planning stages to truly personalize and tailor the experience. We were drawn to their cinematic, artistic documentary style and felt it fit perfectly with the nostalgic, classic, unposed feeling we wanted our wedding day to evoke and they delivered beyond our expectations. The mix of both digital and film was exactly what we were looking for. They are truly the photos of my dreams, captured so thoughtfully.

Barby and Fede are also just amazing people. They made us feel so calm, comfortable and confident in front of the camera. We genuinely feel so lucky not only that we found them, but that they chose to work with us and gave us the greatest wedding gift we could ask for, timeless, incredible memories we will look on fondly for the rest of our lives!

Wedding

I cannot recommend Barby and Fede enough. From start to finish (and I am so sad to be ‘finished’) they were so quick to respond and figure out our needs and really take the time to understand our personal style and what we were looking to capture on our wedding day. We wanted to focus on the small in-between moments and not only did they nail that, they went above our expectations.

On wedding day, there are a lot of people around you and it can be overwhelming at times. Barby and Fede were steady, calm, and kind people that fit honestly seamlessly into our group and just seemed like another one of our friends/family. Because of their energy, they were able to capture photos of all our emotions. I need one giant wall as I want to print every single photo. Again, cannot recommend them enough. Thank you both so much for memories that truly will last forever.

Before you write to them

How much does Studio Fotografico Bacci charge?

Their FAQ says wedding coverage starts at €2,100, with three packages divided by hours. A full brochure is sent on request through their contact form.

Are there two photographers?

Yes. Two professional photographers are included in the standard service. For small, intimate weddings they suggest one, and for weddings of more than 150 guests an extra photographer can be added.

What is their style?

Documentary first, with no traditional posing, and a few composed, editorial portraits when the light or setting suits. They work in colour and black and white and offer a film photography service.

When will we receive our photographs?

A preview of around 15 pictures usually arrives 48 to 72 hours after the wedding, and the full online gallery 45 to 60 days later. Fast delivery in one week is offered as an extra.

How far ahead should we book?

They limit the number of weddings they take each year and say they tend to book about a year and a half ahead. A signed contract and a deposit secure the date.

Do they also film the wedding?
