Emma-Jane has been a professional photographer for more than fourteen years, since leaving university, and splits her working life between fashion and weddings. She grew up in a village in Devon, lived in London for over a decade and now lives in the Cotswolds, which is why her work moves easily between city weddings at Kew Gardens, Syon Park or the Painted Hall in Greenwich and country house days at Hedsor House, Euridge Manor or Cliveden.
Her approach is documentary first. Most of the day is photographed as it happens: relatives who have travelled, children playing, food being eaten, the couple together. The couple portraits are where she brings in her fashion background, working with the light, the architecture of the venue and the line of the dress rather than stock poses. Group photographs are run from a list, briskly and with a light touch. She also offers 35mm film alongside the digital coverage, a small set of frames in colour or black and white.
“As a photographer around 90% of a wedding day is natural, non-interfered with coverage.”
Emma-Jane
She is closely involved in the planning. A call about a month before the wedding goes through the timeline, the group list and wet and dry weather plans, and she will point out where the schedule looks too tight. On the day she works with the other suppliers, keeps the timings moving and helps where needed, from fastening a dress to finding the right moment for golden hour. If a second photographer is booked, it is her husband, Graham, who often covers the other partner's preparations and second angles of the ceremony.
Weddings abroad are a large part of her work. She has photographed a helicopter elopement in the Dolomites, a wedding at Villa Regina Teodolina on Lake Como, a micro wedding at Giraffe Manor in Kenya, and celebrations in the South of France, Mallorca, Marrakech, the Seychelles, Malta, Turkey, Qatar and the United States. In the UK she is a recommended supplier at Kew Gardens, the Roman Baths, the Bodleian Library and Hamswell House.
Couples receive an online gallery, usually 600 to 1,000 photographs and at least 800 for a full day, each edited in her own style and delivered within five to eight weeks. The files are high resolution, print ready and free of watermarks; unedited RAW files are not supplied. Lay-flat albums are bound in Italy and arrive about four weeks after the design is approved.
