Pennie Limming and Maple Leaf Weddings

Maple Leaf Weddings plans weddings and elopements in Ontario, Canada, led by Pennie Limming. The business trades as part of Ontario Inspirations Ltd, which is owned by the Limming family, registered in the UK and licensed to trade in Ontario. Pennie has planned weddings for more than a decade and trained in hotel management before working in hospitality and events.

The family's connection to the province goes back to the 1990s, when one of them, who grew up in Ontario, took the rest to see his home town. They later bought a house in a small Ontario town, and the first wedding they were invited to there led to the business. It began with a single location and a wedding in the snow, and has grown through venues they love and places found in answer to couples' enquiries.

Most of the work is around the Niagara Peninsula. Named ceremony packages cover the Queen's Park gazebo in Niagara-on-the-Lake for up to 12 guests, the Little Log Chapel for a couple and up to six guests, Rambler's Rest for up to 15, a stone pavilion between the Horseshoe and American Falls, and a lakefront estate winery. Muskoka and Toronto are listed as coming soon, and Blue Mountain and South Georgian Bay are also covered.

Pennie's approach is to talk first. After a few conversations she sends a proposal with picture boards of locations and venues matched to what the couple has said matters, with costs and payment dates shown. Seasons are part of the offer: snow in winter, golden leaves in fall and long summer light, for anything from a couple alone to a larger party.

She also guides couples through Ontario's marriage requirements, including the extra process needed when a previous divorce was granted outside Canada, so that overseas couples arrive knowing what to bring and when to apply.

How they work

From the first message to the day itself

  1. 01Talk about the wedding

Pennie begins with a conversation about the couple, the size of the party, the season and what matters most, so that she understands their particular needs before any venue is suggested.

  2. 02Receive a proposal

After a few chats she sends a proposal with picture boards of locations or venues matched to the couple's priorities. It shows the associated costs together with when, where and how each needs to be paid.

  3. 03Agree the contract

A simple contract follows, with a clear explanation of the non-refundable deposit and the cancellation charges.

  4. 04Booking on the couple's behalf

Once the couple decide to go ahead, Maple Leaf Weddings enters into contracts with the venue and suppliers on their behalf.

  5. 05Sort the marriage licence

The licence can be applied for online, paid for in cash and collected in person from a nearby city or town hall, and is valid for three months. Couples who have been divorced follow a separate recognition process, which Pennie explains.

  6. 06The day itself

On the day the team coordinates the ceremony, whether a small elopement package or a larger celebration, and for Classic packages arranges a car from the hotel to the venue and back.

Questions couples ask

Before you write to them

How much does Maple Leaf Weddings charge?

Day-of coordination starts at CAD 2,000 for two hours and rises to CAD 3,000 for eight. Partial planning has a minimum of CAD 5,000 for 10 hours, and full planning starts at CAD 7,500. Elopement packages start at CAD 3,650 at the Little Log Chapel and CAD 3,685 at the Queen's Park gazebo.

Where in Ontario do they work?

Mainly the Niagara Peninsula, including Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls. Blue Mountain and South Georgian Bay are also covered, and Muskoka and Toronto packages are listed as coming soon.

Do we need to live in Ontario to marry there?

No. There are no citizenship or residency requirements, and blood tests and medical certificates are not required. The person who performs the ceremony is authorised to marry you, so a ceremony can be held in many places and at any time.

How does the marriage licence work?

If neither of you has been married before, you apply online, pay in cash and collect the licence in person from a nearby city or town hall. It is valid for three months.

What if one of us has been divorced?

Any previous divorce must be recognised by the Ontario Registrar General. This needs the licence application, a statement of sole responsibility, a certified copy of the divorce decree, with a certified translation if it is not in English or French, and a legal opinion from a lawyer.

Who is on the team?

Pennie Limming plans the weddings. The company is owned by the Limming family, who also bought a home in a small Ontario town and know the area as residents.

How many guests can the ceremony packages take?

The Little Log Chapel takes the couple and up to six guests, the Queen's Park gazebo up to 12 and Rambler's Rest up to 15. Larger celebrations are planned through the full or partial planning services.

How long does it take to fly from the UK?

Non-stop flights from London to Toronto take just over seven hours, with several airlines operating through the year and flights from Manchester in summer.
