The Ark & The Teepee: Experience Tan House Newland

Have you ever dreamed of a unique venue that takes you out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary? Tan House Newland offers precisely that. Enjoy complete escapism as you leave your cars and cares behind and immerse yourself in a fantastical experience.

A quintessential 17th-century English country house that looks just like a dollhouse—but look a little closer. Step into the courtyard's stunning Teepee, adorned with vintage crystal candelabras, zebras, giraffes, tigers, flamingos, lush greenery, and Balinese umbrellas, all beautifully lit with twinkling pea lights and colour-changing uplighting.

Surreal and dreamlike, this fabulously curated space is ready-dressed without the need for additional décor but flexible enough for you to add your own personalised touches.

The Ark is a wonderfully rustic space with many versatile uses. Perfect for humanist ceremonies and drinks receptions, it opens up to the divine manicured pleasure garden, topiary avenue, and a glorious exotic pineapple fountain.

What to Expect

After your enquiry, your main point of contact will be Tanya Somerset. She will ask you what time you’d like your hot tub to be ready, help with your seating and sleeping plans, and ask about your favourite colours, aromas, and flavours, subtly weaving these into your experience.

When You Arrive

Greeted by fresh flowers and a glass of bubbly, hosts Tanya & François will help you with your bags and take you shopping (a day before if necessary). You will receive a guided tour and their phone numbers. They will oversee your stay, intuitively knowing when to be at your service and when to give you space.

Unique Atmosphere

There is both formality and informality, with a sort of faded grandeur. The best china, silver, and crystal are haphazardly placed in a bucolic, carefree manner, with a casual zebra or tiger peeking through plush ostrich feathers. The atmosphere feels like another era and another country entirely—exotic and hospitable.

Evening Delights

The Teepee has a glorious central fire pit tended by the hosts. After a big meal, you can’t help but gravitate to the inviting flames. The lights dim, marshmallows are on hand, and our playlist has us singing and swaying around the fire. It feels like a safari camp with our best desert island disc companions. When the hosts bring in multi-coloured candy floss and gelato, it’s another delightful journey. Early check-in, late check-out, and a delicious farewell brunch make for a dream you won’t want to end.

Hot Tub Experience

The wood-fired hot tub is a thing of beauty. It is cedar on the outside and pearlised oyster-like in the interior. There are three on-site.

Tan House Newland is not just a venue; it’s an experience. From the luxurious accommodation and personalised service to the unique dining experiences and enchanting atmosphere, every moment here is designed to be memorable. For a special event or a serene getaway, Tan House Newland offers an extraordinary escape into a world of wonder and delight

Dining Experiences

The food is delicious. Choose between gourmet experiences like a Venetian Banquet, Mamma Mia Mezedes and the new Moroccan Fling. Meals are served buffet style with generous quantities and deliciously prepared dishes. Inspired by Continental, Middle Eastern, and Moroccan cuisine, these meals are a feast for the eyes and tastebuds. Themed cocktail aperitifs and digestifs top and tail the meal, with palate cleansers and scrumptious petit fours. The homemade meringues are a highlight.
