Ladurée is a Parisian pâtisserie founded in 1862 and best known for the double-shell macaron.
Julien AlvarezChef PâtissierLadurée was founded in Paris in 1862 by Louis Ernest Ladurée, who opened a bakery on the rue Royale. After a fire in 1871 it became a pâtisserie, and its salon de thé, one of the first in Paris, followed. The double-shell macaron with a soft filling, imagined by Pierre Desfontaines, became the house signature and is still made the same way today.
For weddings the house offers a short, clear range. Macaron pyramids come in pink and ivory or in a chocolate version covered in gold leaf, in several sizes. Sugared almonds are sold in cornets in ivory, rose, blue and green so that they can follow a colour scheme, and boxes of macarons, Eugénie biscuits and chocolates serve as table gifts, guest favours or gifts for the couple.
Macarons and gift packaging can be personalised with a message, monogram or logo, with sleeves, ribbons, stickers and message cards added to the boxes. In Paris and London the maison also caters receptions and hires its salons, from a lounge for 40 guests on rue Bonaparte to the Champs-Élysées house, which holds up to 250.
Julien Alvarez has been Chef Pâtissier since 2021. A pastry world champion in 2011 and formerly head of sweet creation at The Peninsula Paris and Le Bristol, he created Eugénie in 2023 and leads the maison's pastry chefs in France and abroad.
