Better Together Mexico

Better Together Mexico is a wedding planning studio based in Playa del Carmen, founded by Cecilia and Vanessa. They met at the University of the Americas Puebla, where both took a hospitality degree, worked separately in the hospitality industry, and later joined forces in Playa del Carmen to build a planning studio together.

Cecilia started as a wedding planner in 2008, leading the opening of the wedding department at a Secrets Resorts hotel, and later taught part-time at the Technological University of the Riviera Maya. Vanessa brings a background in hotels, public relations, sales and digital marketing, and leads the styling side, from tablescapes to flowers. She holds certifications in Weddings Beautiful Worldwide, the Association of Bridal Consultants, green weddings and Jewish weddings.

They work across the Mexican Caribbean, including Cancun, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Holbox, Tulum, Bacalar and the Riviera Maya, in resorts, private venues, beaches and cenotes. Cenote ceremonies are a speciality, whether symbolic, Mayan or legal, and they plan for groups of all sizes, from elopements of a few guests to full wedding weekends.

Their approach is built around planning from afar. They shortlist venues and vendors to a couple's style and budget, review contracts, manage budgets and timelines, handle guest travel and transfers, and run the wedding weekend on the ground. They work with vendors who know specific traditions, among them Jewish, South Asian, Chinese, Mayan, Catholic, interfaith and LGBTQ+ celebrations.

Couples begin with a free, no-obligation discovery call. They suggest starting the planning about a year ahead, or 14 to 18 months for weddings of 50 guests or more, and they will take on shorter timelines where it is realistic.

Cecilia and Vanessa were just amazing during the entire process of planning our South Asian Destination wedding. We met a few times and went through the entire planning and during the five events that we had planned at the venue, they took control of the the entire coordination of decor and setup. They were a 12 out of 10. And they were so efficient, I did not have to do a single thing during the events, and they took care of the entire event and packed up all the decor for us. We will totally recommend and use them for any other events in Mexico.

Fantastic wedding planners who helped my husband and I find the venue that worked best for us (while still under construction) and plan an entire weekend of activities for our friends and family traveling from the USA. They helped negotiate with the venue and really bring our vision to life. In addition, they proactively offered a ton of day-of support: from answering all our guests’ questions, to ensuring the decor looked how we envisioned it, to solving problems before we heard of them so that we could truly enjoy the day. They worked so hard that our guests pointed out to us how hard they were working to keep everything running smoothly. Can’t recommend strongly enough!

Cecy and Vanessa are amazing, and we couldn’t possibly be happier with how great our wedding turned out because of them. They constantly went above and beyond to help us plan every little detail and it was great knowing they were there to run the show. Honestly, we had no idea how complicated a destination wedding could be, but I can tell you that without their assistance, it would have been a nightmare to coordinate it all. They made multiple trips to the cenote, the resort, and other businesses, as well as coordinated on events, food, photographers, entertainment, etc… and even stayed till the very end to ensure it all went according to plan. Thanks, so much Cecy and Vanessa, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Questions couples ask

Before you write to them

Where in Mexico do Better Together Mexico plan weddings?

They are based in Playa del Carmen and plan across the Mexican Caribbean, including Cancun, Costa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Holbox, Tulum, Bacalar and the Riviera Maya, in resorts, private venues and cenotes.

How far ahead should we book?

They suggest starting about a year ahead, and 14 to 18 months for weddings of 50 guests or more. Six months is still workable, and they will help with short-notice weddings.

How much do their services cost?

Fees are on request. After a free discovery call you receive a wedding planning proposal, and a retainer is agreed when you confirm. Cenote ceremony planning is quoted according to the cenote, season and scope.

Can they plan a wedding for us from abroad?

Yes. Planning from another country is their focus. Calls run by video or WhatsApp, venues can be toured virtually or in person, and a team is on the ground for the wedding itself.

Do they plan cenote weddings?

Yes. They plan symbolic, Mayan and legal ceremonies in the cenotes of the Riviera Maya, typically for 10 to 20 guests, including guidance on access, timing and guest comfort.

Can they handle cultural and religious ceremonies?

Yes. Their vendor network covers Jewish, South Asian, Chinese, Persian, Mayan, Catholic and interfaith ceremonies, among others, and they advise on civil and Catholic requirements in Mexico.

Do they help with guest travel?

Yes. They advise on hotels, coordinate room blocks and group rates, and arrange airport transfers and wedding-day transport.
