Malta is three islands of limestone in the middle of the Mediterranean, an hour or so south of Sicily: Valletta's baroque churches and the palaces of its knights, the walled citadel of Mdina, the Grand Harbour and its gardens, and Gozo, the quieter sister island.

Wedding venues in Malta

In Malta, the choice is Villa Arrigo (Mdina and Central Malta).

Villa Arrigo is a colonial-style villa built in 1887 at San Pawl tat-Targa near Naxxar in Malta, with immaculate gardens, a grand marquee and exclusive-use events catered by Osborne Caterers. You will find space for as many as 150 guests and catering in house. It is a drive of about 20 minutes from Malta International Airport (MLA).

Guests fly into Malta International (MLA). The local language is Maltese and English.

On timing, the 5 Star Wedding Atlas points to May, June and September as the best months for a wedding, with July and August the peak and April and October the shoulder months.

Weather data for Luqa (Meteorological Office, through the WMO World Weather Information Service, 1961 to 1990) shows average daily highs of 30.7 degrees C in July and lows of 9.2 degrees C in January. December is the wettest month at 112 mm and July the driest at 0 mm.

May averages 24 to 25°C and is often the prime month; September is warm with golden light and thinning crowds. July and August are hot and the islands at their fullest. The sea is warm enough for guests from May to October. Winters are mild and a December wedding is possible indoors, with the sea gardens for photographs.

To marry legally in Malta: The Marriage Registry marries foreign couples with no residency requirement. The couple applies at least three months before the date, and the civil ceremony is held at the Registry or at any public place the Registrar has approved, with two adult witnesses. This is from the Atlas legal guide, checked October 2026.
