Villa Rizzardi
A 19th-century villa above an Italian garden of 54,000 square metres, in the Valpolicella hills near Verona
Villa Rizzardi is a villa in Negrar di Valpolicella with an Italian garden of about 54,000 square metres, an open-air Teatro di Verzura for ceremonies and interiors that seat up to 250 guests.
Villa Rizzardi stands at Pojega, in Negrar di Valpolicella, a short distance from Verona, set within the Italian garden that surrounds it. The estate was bought by the counts Rizzardi in 1649, and in 1783 Antonio Rizzardi commissioned the garden from Luigi Trezza. Covering about 54,000 square metres, it has a temple, a theatre of clipped hedges, walls, galleries and a belvedere, all shaped from trees, hedges and water. The villa was restored around 1870 to a design by Filippo Messedaglia, and its horseshoe plan opens onto the garden through an inner courtyard. The Rizzardi family still owns the villa, the garden and the surrounding wine estate.
For weddings, the villa's 1,000 square metres over two floors take up to 250 seated guests, in halls and rooms with tall windows onto the garden. Civil ceremonies can be set up at the Belvedere, in the Teatro di Verzura or elsewhere in the garden, with drinks in the lemon houses, dinner along the Viale dei Carpini and fireworks over the grounds. The grounds have areas reserved for caterers, external parking and space for a marquee if one is needed.

A garden made for spectacle
The estate of Pojega was bought by the counts Rizzardi in 1649. Antonio Rizzardi commissioned the garden in 1783 from Luigi Trezza, and its temple, theatre, walls, galleries and belvedere were built by shaping trees, hedges and water into one stage-like composition.

A villa of two floors
The villa was restored around 1870 to a design by Filippo Messedaglia, in a style that joins baroque, Renaissance and neoclassical elements. Its 1,000 square metres hold rooms of different sizes with tall windows that bring the garden indoors, and the interiors take up to 250 seated guests.

Ceremonies and dinners outdoors
Civil ceremonies are set up at the Belvedere, in the Teatro di Verzura or elsewhere in the garden, with drinks in the lemon houses and banquets along the Viale dei Carpini. Fireworks are possible in the garden.

Teatro di Verzura
An open-air theatre of clipped hedges, set up for civil ceremonies.
The Belvedere
A stone staircase and balustrade among statues, used for outdoor ceremonies and portraits.

Viale dei Carpini
A hornbeam avenue where long banquet tables are laid for dinner in the evening.
The villa interiors
Two floors of halls and rooms, 1,000 square metres in all, that seat up to 250 guests.
