About Creeksea Place

Creeksea Place is a Grade II* listed manor house above the River Crouch, hired exclusively for each wedding, with three licensed ceremony areas outdoors and a silk-lined marquee for up to 200.

Creeksea Place stands on a rise above the River Crouch, just west of Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex. The rainwater head on the front is dated 1569, the date usually given for the Grade II* listed house. Its wings were rebuilt between 1900 and 1907, the Royal Navy used it in the Second World War, and the Bertorelli family has owned it since 1947. About 35 acres of gardens, orchard, walled garden and lakes surround it.

Every package is an exclusive hire of the manor house and grounds. The house holds a civil licence, and three outdoor settings are licensed for ceremonies: the Walled Garden, the Marble Gazebo in the orchard and the Pavilion on the lake. The Regency Room, The Panelled Room and The Music Room are licensed indoors. Receptions are held in a silk-lined marquee seating up to 200, with catering by the venue's own chefs. There is no wedding accommodation on site, so guests stay in Burnham-on-Crouch and the villages nearby. The drive is about 50 minutes from the Dartford Tunnel.

A house that has been several things

The rainwater head on the front is dated 1569, the date most often given for the house, and it is Grade II* listed. The wings were rebuilt between 1900 and 1907 for William Rome, a London coffee-house proprietor who also cultivated oysters in the Crouch. The Royal Navy requisitioned the house in the Second World War and commissioned it as HMS St Matthew. Luigi Bertorelli bought it in 1947, and the family still owns it.

Three places outdoors to marry

Most venues offer one ceremony spot. Creeksea Place licenses three: the Walled Garden, the Marble Gazebo standing in the orchard, and the Pavilion, which is reached across a white timber bridge on the lake. Indoors, The Regency Room, The Panelled Room and The Music Room are licensed too, so the choice can be made on the morning.

A silk-lined marquee on the lawn

Receptions take place in a marquee lined with silk and hung with chandeliers beneath a starlight cloth, with a white starlit dancefloor, an outside canopy and a stocked bar. It seats up to 200 for the wedding breakfast, and the in-house team does the cooking.

Gardens, lakes and a clear limit

About 35 acres of gardens, orchard, walled garden and lakes surround the house. There is no wedding accommodation on site, but the Bridal Cottage is yours for the hour before the ceremony, and the Cigar Lounge bar is part of the day.

Absolutely amazing

The staff were absolutely amazing. I attended with my very disabled sister and they all went the extra mile to help her. It was pouring with rain when we left & one of the staff led the way around the back of the estate so she could get straight into the car instead of getting wet & possibly slipping on the wet grass.
The marquee was beautiful, especially the dance floor. It was full of little LED sparkly lights under the surface. There were several lovely chandeliers overhead as well. All in all, a wonderful experience.
