Exclusive-use manor house with a lake and marquee · Old Harlow, Essex
5.03 reviewsA Grade II listed manor in Old Harlow, Essex, given over to one wedding party with its lake, gardens and marquee
That Amazing Place is a Grade II listed manor house in Old Harlow, Essex, dating back to the 15th century. It has been renovated with stylish, contemporary interiors and furnishings, and it is run as an exclusive-use venue. When a couple books, the manor house, the wedding cottage and the guest bedrooms are theirs for the day and night of the wedding, a home from home for the wedding party. The house stands in the Essex countryside, with lakeside lawns, landscaped gardens, a gated secret garden and an orchard around it. Dogs are welcome at weddings.
Weddings here are looked after by a hands-on events team, who work closely with each couple, and the packages are flexible. The house also keeps a list of trusted preferred suppliers who know the venue inside and out, covering catering, DJs and bridal hair and make-up. The exclusivity lets a couple invite their closest family and friends to stay alongside them on the wedding night. Disabled access is available across key areas of the venue, and guests are encouraged to contact the team in advance with any specific requirements. Preferred suppliers are recommended, though alternatives can be discussed. Guests who want to stay on site arrange it through the couple, as rooms cannot be booked directly with the house.

Ceremonies can be held in the Lakeview Lounge, which has bay sash windows and views of the grounds, and in The Hall, the largest indoor space, which has chandelier lighting, a large mirrored wall, an original fireplace and sash windows. Outside, a gazebo stands right next to the lake, and in the summer months an outdoor ceremony structure gives couples the lake as a backdrop. The marquee is available all year. Ceremonies take up to 150 guests, and there are no minimum guest numbers, so an intimate wedding is possible too.

A traditional sit-down wedding breakfast can be served inside the house or in the marquee, and a more relaxed meal without the formality of a sit-down is possible too. The Hall can also be used as an evening dancing space, and the Lakeview Lounge is transformed into a dance floor in the evening, helped by its closeness to the bar. The marquee has crisp white linings and chandelier lighting, and its panoramic walls show off the grounds and can be opened in summer, so guests almost feel they are dining alfresco. A DJ is included for the evening reception, and the bar closes and music ends at 11.30pm from Thursday to Sunday. White biodegradable petal confetti is permitted in the gardens and grounds, but not inside the house or by cannon.

Overnight there is a Honeymoon Cottage for the newlyweds, plus double and twin rooms, a two-bedroom family apartment, a family room for four and a single room, 15 bedrooms in all and sleeping up to 31 guests. Before the wedding, The Wedding Lodge, just steps from the venue, is a four-bedroom house sleeping eight, with two bridal preparation rooms, a lounge, a kitchen/diner and a large garden. Guests who stay on site have breakfast together the following morning.

Couples choose the caterer that is right for them, from recommended caterers offering cuisines from around the world. Options include formal wedding breakfasts, more informal barbecues, hog roasts and afternoon tea. The Classic and Relaxed wedding packages cover food, drink, a DJ and a dedicated coordinator, and the Relaxed package is built around a more informal, sociable meal. Allergies and vegan or gluten-free diets are catered for when the team is told.

That Amazing Place really is as the name suggests AMAZING. We got Married here on Tuesday 22nd September and had such an incredible day. All the staff were incredibly helpful and attentive and made the day go with ease. Angie went above and beyond and helped accommodate all our wishes and requests and really did make our day just so perfect. The grounds and building are incredible to be surrounded by on our wedding day and made for some incredible photos. We really are so impressed and Blown away by every perfect detail that was delivered. We are already hoping for something to come along that requires us to need a venue again as we will definitely be back when we get the chance too. A huge Thank you to Angie and all the Staff at That Amazing Place for everything. All our Love & Thanks Mr & Mrs Trowers ❤️❤️
