Married by the Town Crier

Couples can marry at the Georgian Town Hall, where the Town Crier welcomes guests in his robes, then announces the marriage to Rye before walking the party down to the hotel. St Mary's, the 12th-century parish church, is the alternative, just around the corner.

Ballroom, oysters and dancing

The wedding breakfast is laid in the original Georgian Ballroom, with hand-painted Chinoiserie walls, a minstrel's gallery and two fireplaces, or in the smaller Long Room. Seasonal menus lean on local producers, and in summer a Champagne and oyster bar opens in the courtyard. Later the Ballroom turns into the dancefloor.

Rye sits between the Weald and Camber Sands, both about five minutes away, with views over the marshes to the sea. Mermaid Street and the lanes around the hotel are among the most photographed in England, and they become the setting for the portraits.
