The Wallace Collection
National museum in Hertford House · Marylebone, London
Hertford House, a Marylebone townhouse and museum, opens its galleries and glass-roofed Courtyard to evening wedding celebrations once the museum has closed to the public.
The Wallace Collection in Marylebone
The Wallace Collection is an art museum housed in Hertford House, a townhouse in Manchester Square, Marylebone, that stood at the heart of high society in the eighteenth century and has hosted the great and the good of London's elite for over 200 years. The collection was assembled over five generations of one family, and the vast majority of the artwork was acquired across London and Paris between 1800 and 1872. In 1897 Lady Wallace bequeathed it to the British nation, with the wish that it be kept together. Today the house is also available as an exclusive-use setting for wedding celebrations in the evening.
A wedding here brings a taste of old-world glamour, in silk and gilt-adorned galleries filled with Old Masters and French decorative arts. The collection holds French eighteenth-century paintings, such as Fragonard's The Swing, as well as furniture, porcelain and sculpture. It uniquely represents the personal tastes of one family and their generous gift to the nation. Couples are invited to bring their own creative flair to the evening. A dedicated Wedding Coordinator advises on a suitable selection of suppliers, and the handpicked suppliers work closely with the couple so that the evening reflects who they are and is delivered to the highest standards.

Opening the evening in the Great Gallery
Before guests arrive, the couple and bridal party can have a private photo shoot throughout the Drawing Room Suite. The Great Gallery is then the setting for a moment to relive saying 'I do', a start to the evening celebrations. The room is surrounded by the most celebrated masterpieces in the collection.

Galleries for drinks, the Courtyard for dinner
Guests ascend the Grand Staircase for drinks among priceless artworks and furniture once owned by Marie Antoinette and favoured by the Sun King of France. A harp or baby grand can provide music as guests revel. Celebrations then continue in the Courtyard, the Hertford family's former Sculpture Garden, with its soaring glass roof, marble floor and urns. The space suits any style and taste in both summer and winter, and it is set up for a dinner dance. After dinner, guests can party the night away beneath the stars and glittering glass roof. The house is reserved for the evening, after the museum closes to the public. Full-day hire is available.

Drinks, canapés and dinner
Sumptuous drinks and canapés are served at the gallery reception. A Wedding Breakfast follows, and the couple can transform the former sculpture garden to suit it. A sumptuous dinner is served before the dancing begins.
