Emma Wilson and Story Of Your Day

Story Of Your Day is run by Emma Wilson, who spent more than two decades at the BBC as a newsreader, reporter and one of its pioneer video journalists, filming, reporting and editing her own stories. She filmed her first wedding while still at the BBC, built the company alongside her news work and eventually left to run it full time. She now lives in Wengen, the car-free village in the Jungfrau Region, and is a Canon Educator.

Her approach comes straight from news. Nothing is staged and couples are not directed; she watches, listens and lets the day run, then builds the film from what actually happened. She calls it wedding videojournalism and is plain about what she avoids: the over-directed, slow-motion, perfume-advert style of wedding film. Sound matters as much as pictures, with personal microphones for vows and speeches and a recorder on the DJ or venue system. She does not use gimbals, and flies a drone only where it is permitted.

“We don’t follow trends. We don’t stage moments. We create films grounded in authenticity, designed to move you now and for years to come.”

Emma Wilson, founder and creative director

Emma directs, films and edits every film herself and limits her calendar to around 12 to 15 weddings a year, with a few elopements and proposals in between. Every commission includes an assistant, and for larger or multi-day weddings a small team films alongside her; the About page introduces associate videographers Matt, Nicole and Ronan, Jack on behind-the-scenes and ski filming, and photographer Suzanne. Photography can be booked through the company too, from photographers who shoot for Story Of Your Day.

Recent films include Megan and Dylan at the Blue Lounge and Cervo Resort in Zermatt, Natalie and William at Hotel Falken in Wengen, Sreyan and Julie at the Lenkerhof in Lenk, a wedding at Villa Emden on Isola di Brissago and two in California, at Santa Barbara and Hummingbird Nest Ranch. She also films a good deal of adventure work: ski weddings, glacier elopements reached by helicopter and proposals above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The site states plainly that the company is LGBTQ+ inclusive, and same-sex weddings and elopements run through the portfolio.

Couples receive a short trailer first on a personal web page, then the full films in a private online gallery, where they can be downloaded for a year. Editing takes 16 to 24 weeks, longer after peak season, and a one-minute sneak peek can usually be delivered within a week. The full ceremony and speeches can be added as multi-camera films, and the raw footage can be bought after the edit.

How they work

From the first message to the day itself

  1. 01Enquiry and first call

The enquiry form asks for the date, the venue, the size of the wedding and the planner and photographer already booked. Emma then arranges a call to hear the story behind the wedding, and couples can ask for her guide to commissions.

  2. 02Choosing a commission

Rather than packages, there are three tiers, loosely elopement, intimate and larger celebration, and each is tailored. A deposit and booking form secure the date.

  3. 03Planning

Sixty days before the wedding couples complete a detailed wedding form and book a one-hour video call with Emma to go through timings, people and music. She works alongside the planner and photographer from here on.

  4. 04The wedding

Full-day coverage rather than a set number of hours, from the quiet of the morning to the party, with Emma and an assistant, plus a small team for larger or multi-day weddings.

  5. 05The edit

Emma edits every film herself, in the order the weddings were filmed, over 16 to 24 weeks. A fast-track edit can sometimes be arranged for 10% of the fee.

  6. 06Delivery

The trailer arrives first on a personal web page you can share, then the full films in a private online gallery, downloadable for a year.

The Sertig Valley, Davos in Switzerland

Story of Your Day was absolutely amazing! My husband and I were married in Switzerland in the same church my grandparents were married 72 years ago, and we wanted to tell their love story as well as ours.
Emma was wonderful! She totally took our vision and story and made it something beyond what we could imagine. We were able to share the video with our family and friends at our reception in Dallas as well.

Emma took the time to understand the vibe we wanted at our wedding by speaking to me beforehand and getting to know me. We were probably a videographer’s nightmare in that we didn’t want guests to be aware she was there, yet somehow
Emma managed to get some incredible footage and, even more impressively, fantastic audio. Rewatching the film now gives us goosebumps.
Emma captured the spirit of our wedding weekend and created visually gorgeous films that each have their own storyline, whether it’s the one or the 30 minute version.

My husband and I could not be more grateful for the incredible experience we had working with Emma and Story of Your Day for our wedding. From the very beginning, Emma went above and beyond to ensure that every important moment, and all the little ones in between, were captured with such artistry and care. She wasn’t just a videographer; she truly became part of our celebration.

If you are looking for someone who will pour their heart into capturing your story, look no further. Emma is talented, professional, and genuinely cares about her couples. She didn’t just document our wedding, she is giving us a timeless gift that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

Questions couples ask

Before you write to them

How much does Story Of Your Day charge?

Wedding film commissions start at CHF 10,000 for full-day coverage, quoted individually by event, location and coverage, always with Emma and an assistant. Elopements in the Jungfrau Region start at CHF 4,800 for a shorter day and CHF 6,800 for a full day, elsewhere in Switzerland at CHF 8,500 and across Europe at CHF 9,800.

Who films the wedding?

Emma Wilson directs, films and edits every film herself. For larger or multi-day weddings, a small team she has trained films alongside her.

How soon will we receive our film?

Editing takes 16 to 24 weeks, sometimes longer after peak season, and films are edited in the order the weddings took place. A one-minute sneak peek can usually be ready within a week, and a fast-track edit is sometimes possible for 10% of the fee.

How are the films delivered?

The trailer comes first on a personal web page you can share. The full films follow in a private online gallery and can be downloaded for a year.

Do they fly a drone?

Yes, where it is permitted. Licensed drone coverage is included in the Jungfrau Region proposal film packages.

Can we choose the music?

You can suggest music for the full film. Emma chooses the trailer music unless agreed otherwise, and if you want to pick it yourselves it must come from the licensed Soundstripe library. Because of music licensing, the full film is shared through your gallery link and password rather than posted online.

Do they work with our planner and photographer?

Yes. The enquiry form asks who they are, and Emma works closely with the planner and the rest of the team. Photography can also be booked through Story Of Your Day.

Where do they film, and in what language?

From Wengen they film across Switzerland and regularly in Italy, France, Austria and the UK, as well as further afield, including the USA. Emma is British and works in English.
