Love Island Cakes is a boutique cake business in Kissonerga, near Paphos in Cyprus, established in 2008. Every cake is made to order and baked from scratch, with no preservatives, additives or packet mixes, and the studio is a licensed kitchen inspected by the Ministry of Health and run to HACCP regulations.
The style is contemporary and elegant: semi-naked sponges dressed with fresh flowers, ridged buttercream, smooth sugarpaste with gold leaf, hand-painted botanical and watercolour tiers, and sugar flowers. They also make dessert tables of macaron, marshmallow and nougat, cookie favours and individual cakes, all made in their own studio.
Many couples order from abroad, so most consultations happen by email and telephone. Couples share photographs, links, files and Pinterest boards, and the team can produce a design concept and, if needed, a full sketch. Couples in Paphos, or visiting on a planning trip, can book an appointment at the studio to see designs on display and taste cakes, preserves and buttercreams.
They deliver across Cyprus to hotels, wedding venues, restaurants and private villas, and set the cake up in the agreed place. They also give plain advice on the climate: wedding season runs from April to October with temperatures from 20 to 40 degrees, so they steer couples towards finishes that hold up in the heat, such as sugarpaste or royal icing over buttercream, and recommend a short display time and refrigeration where a buttercream or semi-naked finish is chosen.
Dietary needs are catered for, including dairy-free, nut-free and gluten-free cakes, although the kitchen is one where nuts are used. Each tier can be a different flavour, so guests have a choice, and the team will try new flavours on request.
