Villa Mangiacane
A Renaissance villa estate in the Chianti hills, 12 km from Florence
A fifteenth-century Machiavelli estate among vineyards and olive groves in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, taken as a whole for weddings with 28 rooms, a spa and two pools.
Villa Mangiacane stands among vineyards and olive groves in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, in the Chianti hills 12 km from Florence. The estate began in the fourteenth century as Palazzo Machiavelli, built for the Machiavelli family, and tradition links Michelangelo to its design. A restored loggia with Renaissance frescoes looks toward Florence and its Duomo, and the grounds hold more than 220 pieces of Shona sculpture.
The estate is rented as a whole for weddings. Ceremonies are held in the Olive Oil Gardens, the Machiavelli Courtyard, the Italian Garden or the lower loggia, and receptions can move to the garden, the loggia terraces or the old Barricaia cellar. Palazzo Machiavelli and Villa Mazzei give the wedding party 28 rooms and suites, with a spa, a heated indoor pool and two outdoor pools. An Events Manager plans each day, and the concierge can arrange wine tastings, cooking classes, hot air balloon rides and tours of Tuscany from the estate.

A Machiavelli estate near Florence
The estate began in the fourteenth century when the Machiavelli family commissioned Palazzo Machiavelli, and tradition links Michelangelo to its design. Niccolo Machiavelli is documented as writing The Prince at the Albergaccio nearby, joined to the villa by a path through the estate. The name Mangiacane refers to the mastiffs that once guarded it, and two stone dogs stand on the gate pillars.

Ceremonies in the gardens and loggia
Ceremonies can be held in the Olive Oil Gardens for up to 200, the Machiavelli Courtyard for up to 100, the Italian Garden for up to 80 or the lower loggia for up to 60. The Amphitheatre, set in the woods away from the villa, is available for ceremonies in close contact with nature.

The whole estate for the wedding party
