Kit Kemp design hotel in a Nash Regency building, with an 18m underground pool, off Haymarket, London
5.01 reviewHaymarket Hotel is a Firmdale hotel designed by Kit Kemp inside a Regency building by John Nash, with a civil-ceremony gallery, an 18m underground pool for parties and 53 rooms and suites in London's West End.
Haymarket Hotel sits in a landmark Regency building by John Nash, just off Haymarket in the heart of London's West End. It belongs to the Firmdale group and was designed by Kit Kemp, whose rooms combine bold colour, layered pattern and contemporary art. The building houses a Shooting Gallery with hand-painted de Gournay walls, a library with a purple honesty bar, a conservatory lounge, the Rocklin and Nash rooms, a Townhouse Drawing Room and a first-floor terrace. Beneath it all lies an 18m swimming pool, lit and lined for private events.
Civil ceremonies take place in the Shooting Gallery, which is licensed for up to 115 guests. Receptions move to the pool room, where about 160 can sit down and up to around 220 can gather standing in the evening. Brumus, the hotel's own bar and restaurant, provides Modern European menus and full dietary catering. Spaces are hired within the working hotel rather than on exclusive use. Fifty-three individually designed rooms and suites, some with terraces, allow the wedding party to stay on site, a few minutes from Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square, with London Heathrow about 45 minutes away.

Haymarket Hotel occupies a Regency building by John Nash, tucked just off Haymarket where Theatreland meets the rest of the West End. Inside, Kit Kemp has layered bold colour, pattern and contemporary art, so a stately shell holds a lively, glamorous interior rather than a restrained one.

Civil ceremonies are held in the Shooting Gallery, a room hand-painted by de Gournay and licensed for up to 115 guests. The same room serves for long dinners afterwards, set along a table of flowers and candles against the painted walls.

Below the hotel lies an 18m swimming pool, lit and lined for private hire. About 160 can sit down to a wedding breakfast beside it, and up to around 220 can stand, drink and dance there in the evening, with the Library honesty bar and the first-floor terrace above for drinks and photographs.

Brumus, the hotel's bar and restaurant, provides generous Modern European menus, and the Rocklin and Nash rooms and the Townhouse Drawing Room offer more private settings for dining. Fifty-three individually designed rooms and suites let the party sleep in the same building.

We stayed at the Haymarket Hotel in August for a week and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and perfectly located - just a short walk to Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Covent Garden, and other major attractions. What truly made our stay exceptional was the staff. They were attentive and extraordinary, remembering our names, meal preferences, and even offering thoughtful suggestions for activities tailored to our interests. Breakfast was delicious every morning, with the wait staff showing the same warm attentiveness. Travelling with family, including our 12-year-old, we were touched by the little details - like the ice cream voucher he received, which he happily enjoyed. These personal touches made us feel genuinely cared for. Highly recommend the Haymarket Hotel for anyone visiting London - it’s the perfect blend of comfort, location, and exceptional service.
