About Valentines Mansion & Gardens

Valentines Mansion & Gardens is a restored mansion of 1696 in a public park at Ilford, with two rooms licensed for civil ceremonies and whole-house hire for up to 120 guests.

Valentines Mansion was built in 1696 and now stands as a restored, Grade II* listed house in a public park at Ilford, in the London Borough of Redbridge. The borough owns it and the charity Vision RCL runs it. Gants Hill station on the Central line is a five-minute walk, and Ilford is on the Elizabeth line.

Two rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies. The first-floor Drawing Room holds 70, with stained glass, a grand piano and a balcony over the South Lawn, and the ground-floor Morning Room holds 40 beside a deep bay window. Ceremony hire starts at £400 including VAT, and eight hours of the whole mansion, for up to 120 guests, starts at £1,335. There is no kitchen and no accommodation, so caterers come from an approved list and guests stay in nearby hotels. A walled garden, a Victorian rose garden and the Long Water canal serve for photographs, but ceremonies are held indoors.

Valentines Mansion & Gardens

Where is Valentines Mansion?

It is at 1 Emerson Road, Ilford, in its own public park in the London Borough of Redbridge. Gants Hill station is five minutes away on foot, and the A406 and A12 are close by.

Which rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies?

Two rooms: the first-floor Drawing Room, licensed for 70 and hired in three-hour blocks, and the ground-floor Morning Room, licensed for 40 and hired in two-hour blocks. No other room in the house carries a licence.

What does it cost?

Ceremony room hire starts at £400 including VAT, which covers two hours in the Morning Room on a Tuesday to Thursday, for the ceremony only. The Drawing Room starts at £500, and hiring the whole mansion for eight hours starts at £1,335. The registrar is charged separately by Redbridge from £660.

How many guests can attend?

Whole-house hire takes up to 120 guests. The venue does not split its capacity into seated and standing numbers for individual rooms, so ask for layout numbers before planning tables.

Can we bring our own caterer?

No. There is no kitchen of its own, so food must come from the approved list: The Curry Club, Inside Out Eventz, British Asian Catering, Eden Caterers and The Plantation Inn.

Is there accommodation?

No. There are no guest bedrooms and no bridal preparation suite, so guests stay in hotels in Ilford and Gants Hill or along the Central and Elizabeth lines.

What does whole-house hire include?

Eight hours of the entire mansion, with both licensed rooms, the Gallery, the Holcombe Room and its terrace, the Regency Parlour, the Bird Room and the Victorian kitchen. Up to two extra hours can be added.
