Medieval wine-estate borgo with a consecrated church on the slopes of Monte Amiata, Maremma, Tuscany
ColleMassari Hospitality is a restored medieval borgo on a 1,200-hectare wine estate in the Maremma, with a consecrated church, 22 rooms and suites, and 120 hectares of organic vineyard.
ColleMassari Hospitality is a medieval borgo on the slopes of Monte Amiata, in the Maremma, the wilder and quieter side of Tuscany. The estate covers 1,200 hectares, 120 of them organic vineyard producing Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG. At its centre stands the restored hamlet, honey-coloured stone buildings gathered round a cortile and the consecrated church of Sant'Antonio dell'Abate, approached along a cypress-lined avenue.
Couples can marry in the church or on the lawn beneath a century-old cedar, then celebrate in the courtyard and gardens with the Valle dell'Ombrone spread out below. Up to 120 guests fit outdoors, and Forum Bertarelli receives up to 300. Dinner is served at I Granai, a former grain store whose Maremma menu comes from Chef Michele and the estate's own produce. The borgo can be taken in its entirety, with 22 rooms and suites in the Wine Relais and a panoramic outdoor pool. Siena is about an hour away, Grosseto 40 minutes and Florence two hours.
