Castello di Velona is a thousand-year-old fortress, now a hotel and spa, perched on a hilltop overlooking the UNESCO-listed Val d’Orcia in Tuscany. Around the castle lie hectares of private estate: Brunello vineyards, olive groves, woodlands and hills that change colour with every hour of the day. Beneath the estate flows a natural thermal spring that feeds the panoramic pools of the spa, which is what makes it a thermal castle. Over the whole estate lies the silence of the Tuscan countryside, and the resort frames a stay here as living in Tuscany rather than visiting it. Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and organic extra virgin olive oil are produced in the hills around the castle.
The castle can be rented for weddings or special events, and it is also positioned for private events, retreats and meetings. Open views over the vineyards and hills are part of the scene at weddings and gatherings here. Experiences on and around the estate include private wine tastings, cooking classes, hot air balloon flights, vineyard picnics and sunsets over the valley. The historic villages of Pienza, Siena, San Gimignano and Bagno Vignoni, and the ancient Saint Antimo Abbey, are a short drive away for day trips and excursions.

Castello di Velona has 45 suites. The Castle side has a traditional décor, and the Sunset wing is more contemporary, with thermal water in the bathtub and an outdoor patio. Suite types include the Classic Junior Suite, the UNESCO View Terrace Junior Suite, the UNESCO View Velona Suite with SPA and suites with a panoramic terrace and private pool. The spa, OLISPA, is shaped by Tuscan travertine with a sauna, steam baths and sensory showers.
There are two restaurants, Settimo Senso, the gourmet restaurant, and the Velona Lounge Bar, both with terraces. The cooking celebrates Tuscan tradition through a contemporary perspective, from panoramic breakfasts to dinners at sunset, using seasonal ingredients and regional cuisine.
