A convent built by Borromini

In 1642 Duchess Camilla Virginia Savelli commissioned Francesco Borromini to design a convent for Augustinian nuns on the slopes of the Gianicolo in Trastevere. Much of what he left remains: the cloister corridors, a gilded stone staircase, the refectory and the chapel facing the garden. The building is now a VRetreats boutique hotel.

The refectory, the roof and the garden

Ceremonies and banquets are held in the Gran Sala Borromini, beneath candelabras and old walnut choir seats. The Terrazza Savelli suits cocktails over the roofs of Trastevere, and a private garden shaded by citrus trees serves ceremonies and aperitivi.

Roman cooking, modern hand

The Contempo restaurant, led by Chef Emidio Ferro, revisits Roman tradition for wedding menus built around the season and the event. The Elementa Lounge Bar and Bistrot covers breakfasts and aperitivi, often served in the garden courtyard.

Rome Trastavere stay

This hotel was a beautiful and offers peace and beauty in a very vibrant city. The rooms are comfortable with nice views of the courtyard. The hotel breakfast is great and there is a rooftop terrace to sit and relax. Take a drink up with you if you like. Wonderful stay! There is a church in the hotel with daily mass at 7am except Saturday. Very nice to just sit and pray.

Luxury and Convenience

Stayed at the Dona Camilla Savelli for 3 nights in Oct. 2026. What a wonderful experience. A lovely hotel with beautiful decor, luxury amenities and a very kind and helpful staff. Delicious and plentiful breakfast bar. Front desk provided us with a very handy map of the area. Hotel had an area to safely store luggage, as we arrived very early before check in time. There is a courtyard garden with fruit trees and flowers growing as well as ample seating; which was a nice area to relax after a long day of site seeing. Hotel is walkable to many of the highlight tourist sites of Rome.
