Exclusive-use farm wedding venue near Eydon · Daventry, Northamptonshire
A family-run barn estate at Eydon where couples take exclusive use of converted stone farm buildings, gardens and bedrooms for three days.
Crockwell Farm is a family-run wedding venue at Eydon, near Daventry, created from sympathetically converted stone farm buildings at the centre of a privately owned working farm. The buildings include an oak glazed entrance hall, a vaulted ceremony barn and internal marquees with panoramic views over the Northamptonshire countryside. Set against rolling countryside, fields surround the venue on all sides, which makes it a secluded and very beautiful spot. Couples have exclusive use of Crockwell over three days, and the farmhouse and cottages are a home away from home rather than a hotel.
Hire runs from 2pm the day before the wedding to midday the day after, and the venue does not take wedding bookings on consecutive days. Couples arrive the afternoon before with their table plan, decorations and dress, and the team help with last-minute preparations and go through the order of the day. The coordination team is on hand from the first enquiry until the couple leave for their honeymoon. The gardens are lovingly maintained and planned each year by the owner, and look beautiful at any time of year. The team agree an outline itinerary with the couple, and refine it in a planning meeting six to eight months before the wedding.

Three ceremony spaces are licensed with the Northamptonshire Registrar for weddings, partnerships and naming ceremonies. The Vaulted Barn is the original Crockwell ceremony space, with oak beams, high ceilings and candlelit window alcoves, and a live video link to two HD screens on the dance floor lets additional guests watch. The Starlit Marquee is also licensed and has expansive windows onto the countryside. The Orchard Pavilion sits among the trees, with a winding aisle from the garden. Outdoor ceremonies there are only practical in good weather, the Registrar decides whether they go ahead, and there is no surcharge. A typical ceremony takes around half an hour, and couples book the Registrar themselves.

After the ceremony, drinks are served in the extensive gardens in fine weather, with an enormous walnut tree for shade. In bad weather or winter they move into the rustic bar and the oak vaulted barn. The Saddle Room Bar connects the barn, the Starlit Marquee and the Breakfast Room, and stays open until closing time, usually 12.30am. The wedding breakfast is served in the barn for smaller numbers or in the Starlit Marquee, which seats up to 200 and offers round tables with white linen or long rustic tables. The dance floor, with a star cloth light ceiling, hardwood floor and raised stage, is revealed after the meal. There is no sound limit for DJs or bands.

The immediate wedding party has exclusive use of the bedrooms in the main Farmhouse and the converted farm cottages for the night before and the night of the wedding. There are twelve rooms, including several family rooms and one fully accessible ground floor bedroom with a wet room, and with family rooms and sofa beds up to 35 guests can stay. Breakfast is included and served in the Breakfast Room. Staying guests can use the whole farmhouse, including the kitchen, dining room, sitting room and snooker room.

Ross & Ross Events provide the catering for every wedding. Menus range from fine dining to relaxed festival style feasting. Crockwell is a licensed wedding and party premises and can offer any combination of pay bar, reception drinks and table wine packages. Couples can taste the house wines at a Taster Evening, held in spring and autumn, which also shows how the venue looks dressed for an evening reception. Couples may bring their own wine for a corkage fee.

We’ve viewed many venues, some beautiful estate houses, and slightly more quirky options. Crockwell captured the heart of charming England. We particularly loved the farmhouse and the design of the bedrooms for our guests. We thought the option of having many different spaces to hold the wedding was ideal, and the biggest win was renting the entire complex for the weekend giving us, and our guests, exclusive use.
