Bishop's palace and Norman keep above the town · Farnham, Surrey
5.052 reviewsA castle in the heart of Farnham with four licensed ceremony rooms, two Church of England chapels and a Great Hall for the wedding breakfast.
Farnham Castle stands in the heart of Farnham, in the Surrey Hills. The Norman Chapel is the very oldest part of the Palace and the Bishop's Chapel dates from the 17th century, so weddings take place within historic buildings. The Castle Keep is singled out as a backdrop for wedding photography, and the grounds are used for ceremonies and receptions as well as for pictures. The castle offers weddings in three forms: an all-inclusive package, a wedding weekend and dry hire. Show-round appointments are available, and the team talks couples through their vision over a glass of fizz and home-made brownies.
The all-inclusive package is designed to give couples a stress-free planning experience, with the castle arranging everything so that they do not need to worry about a thing. Wedding weekends run from Friday to Sunday. Guests arrive on Friday for lunch and a Welcome Dinner, getting ready takes place in the Gatehouse and Pembroke on Saturday, and the Great Hall hosts dinner and dancing with a complimentary late bar before a brunch on Sunday. Dry hire is available for cultural and traditional weddings, for couples who want to build the day around their own customs. Couples describe the planning as clear, consistent and enjoyable.

Lantern Hall, the Great Hall, the Winchester Suite and the Library are the four licensed ceremony rooms. In Lantern Hall couples choose whether to walk the aisle towards the Lancet Windows or the historic Arch. The Great Hall is the largest of the ceremony rooms and has the longest aisle. The Winchester Suite looks over the Rose Garden and Farnham Park, and the Library over Farnham Town. The Norman Chapel and the Bishop's Chapel are private chapels, available only for Church of England weddings for eligible couples holding their reception at the castle. Celebrant ceremonies can be held in the grounds, and Mandap ceremonies with a Havan are permitted in Lantern Hall, the Winchester Suite and the Great Hall. Ceremonies take up to 265 guests.

The Great Hall is the main reception space. On the all-inclusive package it is dressed with fairy lights, mantlepiece décor, faux floral table centrepieces, a silver cake stand and knife, and speakers and a microphone for speeches, and a DJ and dancefloor follow. The Great Lawn has a festoon-lit canopy and bar on the same package. For dry hire weddings the Great Hall and the Great Lawn are the main dining settings, indoors or outdoors, and marquee weddings of any size are possible.

The Guildford Suite is the honeymoon suite, with a lounge area, a grand bed and a deluxe en-suite with a roll top bath. For guests there are 33 en-suite bedrooms across the estate, in single, double, twin, super-king and family rooms. Breakfast for overnight guests is served in the Library the following morning.

An in-house team of classically trained chefs cooks in the castle kitchens, using seasonal ingredients from trusted local suppliers. Sample menus are headed Canapés, Beaufort, Montague, Winchester, Desserts and Drinks, and vegetarian, vegan, children's and evening options are available. On the all-inclusive package couples attend a tasting evening to choose their menu, and the Beaufort Drinks Package, a toast drink, still and sparkling water, and teas and coffee are included, with Lite Bites in the evening.

The staff at Farnham castle were highly professional and the build up to the day with the wedding planning team was efficient and stress-free. Our guests have not stopped talking about our wedding day. They loved the food, the service and the guests that stayed at the castle gave great feedback on their accommodation. The venue itself was even more magical on the day. The grounds looked beautiful which has given us amazing photographs. Our wedding day was as perfect as we could have hoped for and more.
