Questions couples ask

Marrying in Tea Country & Nuwara Eliya

Short answers from what the venues have told us.

What is the ceremony like at the estate bungalows?

The ceremony takes place in the tea fields around the event bungalow or on its lawn, overlooking the Castlereagh Reservoir and the valley. The air is cool and clear, with no roads, buildings or noise nearby, and the resident chef prepares a candlelit dinner.

Can all five bungalows be hired together?

Yes. They are linked by estate tracks, and a ceremony at one bungalow with guests across all five is the usual exclusive-hire format. Minimum hire periods apply, so the operator should be asked well ahead.

How cold does it get in Nuwara Eliya?

Nights can turn cold, especially in January and February, and a light jacket is needed in the evenings all year. The hill station was built because it was cool enough for British colonials to feel comfortable.

Should the guest itinerary include the train from Kandy?

Yes. The Kandy to Nanu Oya train passes mist-filled valleys, waterfalls and estates, with an observation car. Guests with mobility needs may prefer the road transfer, which is more practical.
