Weddings in Lucerne

Lucerne combines the elegance of a historic Swiss city with the dramatic scenery of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains. Weddings take place in grand hotels, historic buildings, elegant ballrooms and waterfront venues, where views across the lake and towards the Alps create beautiful settings for celebrations.

The city's medieval old town is known for its painted façades, cobbled squares and the Chapel Bridge, which crosses the River Reuss beneath its distinctive wooden roof. Along the lakeshore, elegant promenades look towards Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi, while traditional boats connect Lucerne with villages and resorts around the lake. With its historic architecture, beautiful waterfront and close relationship with the surrounding mountains, Lucerne offers a distinctive setting for a Swiss destination wedding.

Questions couples ask

Marrying in Lucerne

Short answers from what the venues have told us.

Can the Kapellbrücke be used for wedding photography?

It is a public bridge, so no booking is required or possible. Photographers work there in the quiet early morning, and a dawn shoot with Pilatus behind is viable.

How does a paddle steamer charter work?

The SGV books private charters on several historic vessels, including the DS Stadt Luzern of 1928, through its events department. Catering comes from the on-board kitchen or an external caterer. Minimum contract periods and seasonal availability apply.

Can the summit of Pilatus host a wedding event?

The summit hotel takes private events through Pilatus-Bahnen AG, reached by cogwheel railway or cable car. Last departures must be built into the timing, and guests should be briefed on cool, windy conditions.

Is Lucerne busy in summer?

Yes, particularly in July and August, and the old town is crowded at peak hours. Private hotel grounds and boat charters are unaffected, and early morning photography gives quiet access to the bridge.
