About Cliveden House

A Grade I stately home in Taplow where every bedroom is named for a figure from its past and weddings can take the whole house

Cliveden House in Taplow

Cliveden House is a Grade I listed stately home at Taplow near Maidenhead, now a five-star country-house hotel within National Trust grounds. The interiors are furnished with antiques and period features, in rooms that are lavish but homely. Every bedroom is named after a prominent guest or figure from Cliveden's past and furnished accordingly, so the history of the house is part of a stay rather than a story told beside it. For weddings, the house invites couples to create their moment in Cliveden history, from a small package to a wedding that takes over the whole property.

A wedding here is planned by the house's wedding manager from start to finish, and no request is too small for the team, whether the celebration is a small one or an exclusive-use wedding. Exclusive use gives the wedding party the main mansion and its bedrooms, with the spa, gym and tennis courts for house guests and access to the National Trust grounds, where a walk around the estate is part of a stay. Guests can also take a scenic boat trip along the Thames on a private vintage boat. Cliveden hosts proposals too, and viewings are by appointment only.

Ceremonies and wedding packages

Cliveden offers three named packages for smaller weddings, each with its own guest range, and will tailor a wedding that none of them suits. Larger weddings are held on an exclusive-use basis. On exclusive use the house takes up to 130 guests for the ceremony, the reception and the wedding breakfast, and a marquee can be hired for larger seated numbers. Ceremonies take place in the house's wedding spaces.

Catering is in-house. Menus are created by the Executive Head Chef and the kitchen team, and a midweek menu tasting is part of the packages. The kitchen works with locally sourced produce, and a share of its menus is vegan or plant-based all year. The Astor Grill serves more relaxed dishes, and afternoon tea, inspired by Cliveden's history, is served in the house.
