Fourteenth-century fortress and estate five kilometres above Assisi, Umbria
Castello di Petrata is a fourteenth-century castle on 50 hectares of hillside five kilometres above Assisi, with a glass hall, terraced gardens, a couple's spa and 22 rooms.
Castello di Petrata is a fourteenth-century fortified castle on 50 hectares of Umbrian hillside, five kilometres above Assisi. Its stone towers and ancient walls look over the valley and, on a clear day, toward Perugia. The estate has been restored as a hotel and wedding venue, and brings together the original fortress, La Limonaia glass hall, panoramic terraced gardens, a vaulted wine cellar, a spa for two and 22 rooms.
Couples take the castle in full. Ceremonies are held in the gardens, in La Limonaia or in Sala Primavera, and receptions of up to 250 guests spread across the terraces, where the basilica of Assisi catches the afternoon light. The restaurant cooks from the estate's own land, with olive oil, truffles, salami, fresh pasta and bread produced within the grounds. Twenty-two rooms with exposed stone and wrought-iron beds sleep up to 60 guests inside the walls, and the spa has an outdoor jacuzzi terrace overlooking the valley. Perugia is about 20 minutes away and Rome Fiumicino about two hours.

Castello di Petrata is a fortified castle of the fourteenth century on 50 hectares of Umbrian hillside. Stone towers and old walls look over the valley, and the estate has been restored as a hotel and wedding venue.

Ceremonies take place in the gardens or under the glass roof of La Limonaia, and aperitivi are served on terraces where the basilica of Assisi catches the afternoon light. Sala Primavera and a vaulted wine cellar add indoor settings.

Olive oil, truffles, salami, fresh pasta and bread all come from within the estate gates, so dinners follow a zero-kilometre Umbrian table.

The couple's spa has an outdoor jacuzzi terrace above the Assisi valley, and 22 rooms with stone walls, wooden beams and wrought-iron beds keep the whole party inside the castle.
